Salman Rashid

Salman has written a largely excellent account of his journey to India to see the home of his ancestors in Jallandhar.

While doing so, he meets with Indians who show him a lot of hospitality, and some of them apologize for the excesses of the Partition. In some ways, this is how it should be. It was a time of madness, and the realization that we were pawns in the hands of politicians came too late.

This is a book of the heart, and i recommend that people read the book.

If there is one gripe I have, it is this - that he glorifies India too much and denigrates Pakistan too much.
Both countries have positive and negative points about them. I wish he had focussed on this. Was he trying too hard to please an Indian audience? I don't know.… (altro)
