Still Running by Judah Raine hits the page running and keeps going from there. Josie’s concern for her small charges and her anger with their parents is palpable; her despair at still not getting to make something of her life is powerfully real. And her confused feelings when she meets the man of her dreams only to storm out in fury are very convincingly portrayed.
The author writes with a beautiful flair for the interests and concerns and children and the adults who care for them. And she brings to vivid life the contrasts between a South-African horse farm and the streets and penthouses of London. I could almost smell the sunshine as I read.
But there are reasons Josie ran from Durban, and she’s Still Running, as the title says. The reader gradually learns why as friends new and old encourage Josie to let go of the past. And a final wrenching confrontation finally brings the future, and the family, she imagined she could never deserve.
