Dark Days of Supernatural Paranormal Romance is a sampler of stories by Aprilynne Pike, Ellen Schreiber, Kim Harrison, Veronica Roth, Amy Plum, Josephine Angelini, and Tara Hudson. It's a great price -- free -- and contains some intriguing sampler stories:

* Illusions by Aprilynne Pike: Laurel, a young fairy teen, is caught up in a war between fairies & trolls. She is torn between her fairy protector, Tamani, and her human boyfriend. Interesting story, I'd like to read more to find out the back story of how Laurel came to be living as a human.

* Divergent by Veronica Roth: The first part of the first book in a trilogy about a future dystopian society, where people are divided into factions and one must chose their faction when they turn 16. Reminiscent of Hunger Games, the world building and characterization is good.

* Die for Me, Amy Plum: Kate's parents are killed in a car accident, and she and her sister move to Paris to live with their grandparents. Kate is despondent and withdraws, until she meets Vincent, and strange things begin happening to her. This is part of the first book in the Revenants series.

*Something Deadly this way Comes, Kim Harrison: This is the third Fantasy novel in the Madison Avery series, about a girl who dies but is put to work on Earth, along with a team of angels.

* Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini: The first 7 or 8 chapters of this unique book were included, introducing an extraordinary teen called Helen, who has always been a bit different, but finally begins to realize the full extent of it when a new family moves into town and she finds herself inexplicably repelled by them.

* Hereafter by Tara Hudson: First few chapters in the haunting, atmospheric book about Amelia, a lost soul who is wandering the earth near the river where she drowned years earlier. No one sees or hears her pleas for attention. She rescues Josh from drowning after he drives his car into the river, and he is not only able to see her, but seeks her out.

* Vampire Kisses & Cryptic Cravings, Ellen Schreiber: The first part of Book 8 in the Vampire Kisses series, centering around Raven and her vampire boyfriend, Alexander.

All in all, some very intriguing stories, particularly by new authors Veronica Roth, Amy Plum, Josephine Angelini, and Tara Hudson.… (altro)
