If you need help with mobile technology and effective uses for it, this is a great place to read all about it! There is rationale for why technology as well as reviews of types of technology, as well as information about what is in use today. However, there needs to be more information about the "future" of technology in a school library incorporated into its findings and predictions. If you don't understand certain technologies, this read is one that will help you with better understandings including potential uses and technical prowess of the tool. Hopefully there isn't a librarian out there that hasn't thought about or used different types of technologies explored in this book, but the ideas and information it contains are quite useful either as an exploration of what can happen with technology in the school or for reinforcement about why use technology with students today. The uses of technology for conferencing, presentations, podcasts, videos, webinars, and voicethreads are proliferating rapidly in the free and fee world. Every day, it seems, I get offers to listen to various experts in webinar form and the technology is now being used to extend national and state conferences in an attempt to increase participation and collaboration. Peters provides and overview of a number of types of programs, possibilities, and platforms and somehow is almost more than one needs to know to get started. Our recommendation is to use the web 2.0 tools that are free with students from voicethreads to podcasts, to the production of YouTube presentations. There is Slideshare and an ever growing number of free possibilities that get us all started before we get serious with district, regional, state, or national services. There are valuable suggestions in this book, but one can learn most of the suggestions made here by just participating and creating with kids and teachers. Perhaps the best use of this book is for the person who is very serious about beginning a series of events that will be sponsored regularly by the library or school. It does contain enough dos and don’ts for this purpose. Otherwise, learn and create on the fly. It is part of the excitement of this new age of communication.… (altro)
