This is the story of a young Puerto Rica girl whose family relocates to Massachusetts with her family. The strength of this novel is the realistic dialogue and relationships between characters over the years. She and her brother struggle with not only adolescent issues but also coping with life in a new country. The backdrop here is the 1960's and 1970's and Vietnam War era. The family struggles especially after her brother finds an unsavory friend and mental health problems.
