A short but delightful book about the arrival of Black settlers in St. Petersburg and the contribution they made to its development despite the restrictions of the Jim Crow laws. The book looks at the culture of the Black community and how it became a centre for music and theatre in the city. Brave individuals challenged the bigotry of the white city fathers to get changes so they could move and work freely in all of the city and not just in the segregated portion. The book would serve as a tour guide if one wished to visit the areas of the city where the action took place.… (altro)
