I had to buy this collection of essays about moving and family life. The font size is tiny to my dismay but it was worth my crossed eyes and eye strain.

The cover picture shows an orange plaid couch that is nine feet long. I had an orange plaid couch in my life too, not nine feet long and not soft velveteen as in the essay but very scratchy and uncomfortable. It was the couch that was in a rented apartment. We had to wait a month to get our furniture so we were thankful for it but glad to leave it when we moved later.

The author's couch was ugly but very comfortable, but she grew attached to it because it was one of the few things of her dad's and she grew attached to it. It is a story of the pain of letting go of what your loved ones left behind and you know that it is not practical to keep it. I loved this story, I have inherited small furniture, books, pottery and so much more from my father whom I loved so much. Over time, I have had to part with several of the things that I have inherited and each time it is painful. I loved this story the best but there are many other great ones of childbirth tales, stories about the author's children and husband.

It is well worth reading so I recommend despite the tiny print.

I sort of enjoyed the audiobook and the speaker, but I can’t even remember if I finish the book, I know the first story about the ugly couch that was a favorite of her fathers was a really interesting story, but after that, I started to lose interest

Passarella has found her stride in this humorous collection of essays about moving, aging, and trying to hold onto the past.

I wanted to love it, but I didn't. It came off as condescending in the guise of being "more educated"--just struck the wrong chord. I know this book is supposed to be controversial, but it could've done more good than harm with a different approach.
