Ulzana is an excellent, well written fictional account of the life of Ulzana, one of the Chiricahua Apache Indians. The life of Ulzana is covered from childhood to his later years and many of the customs, superstitions, and general rules of living within the Apache culture are outlined. The details ring true which leads me to believe an incredible amount of research must have gone into the writing of Ulzana's story.
I definitely feel I gained a deeper insight into what the Apaches were fighting to preserve when they were being forced from their land. While I felt the book was sympathetic to the plight of the Indians, I didn't get the sense their violent culture was being glorified or defended and I felt the author was fair in presenting there was good and evil on both sides.… (altro)

James Olson is a local Texas author who was very supportive of my local author events, we remain in touch. He has produced some really good books. This is an author you should check out.

FROM AMAZON: The man's grip was even stronger than her Father's, the single hand both choking and lifting her. Her lungs were burning for air, and her feet no longer touched the ground. Blood pounded in her ears, and her heart beat as if it would burst from her chest. When she sensed the man carrying her toward the cluster of evergreens she tried to fight, but her feet, dangling in the air, gave no force to the kicks. A cascade of snow, dislodged from a pine branch, fell down the back of her jacket as the man pulled her into the trees. In a few moments the blowing and drifting snow had hidden the tracks on the sidewalk. Kathleen Swanson, forever fourteen, became The Butcher's first victim. Once again a serial killer stalks Millerton's streets. Matthew Goeser must find the killer quickly, but there are no clues, no motive, and no pattern. And Matt is scheduled to be the next victim.… (altro)

This is a spell binder, full of drama, action, danger and love. Highly recommended. James Olson is a local author in East Texas

Everyone locked in a horrible situation such as that faced by these two kids deserves to be rescued by an uncle like Jonathon Wilson and his housekeeper, Emily.

Anyone taking on the rescue of an abused child should read this for reassurance and the shared experience.

Mr. Olson says this might be his last novel, but I hope he writes another. I've read and listened to most of his books and recommend all of them, but this is so relevant to what is happening to too many children in our world. It is extremely readable, you don't want to stop until you reach the end, and then you want more!

FROM AMAZON: Would you risk your life for a couple of kids you don’t even know?

Virtually overnight Jonathon Wilson’s carefree bachelor world has been turned upside down. His sister is dead from a drug overdose that may or may not have been accidental, and he’s suddenly the guardian of a niece and nephew - who’ve been sexually and emotionally abused.

Fighting a Government Bureaucracy to keep the children out of the foster care system is only the beginning of his problems. His sister’s former drug dealer wants to ask the children some questions, and they aren’t likely to survive the interrogation. Now Jon must decide whether he is willing to die to protect two kids he didn’t even know existed two months ago.

Did you know a novel foretold a maritime disaster fourteen years before it happened?

…Or that a typing error actually shortened a war?

…Or that you’ve probably never heard of the Greatest America Fire Disaster or why it’s been lost to obscure history?

These are only three of the fascinating tales of history you’ll find within these pages. Tales as you’ve never heard them before. In the dusty corners of history you’ll find obscure stories about the men and women, just like you and me, whose names have been engraved in the annuals of time.
Take my hand and I’ll guide you on a fascinating journey through obscure history’s tales of inventions, sports, war, courage, crime, disasters, and more. Let’s have some fun!
