Lovely guide book to Paris and the northern and western parts of France, done in 1941, although the first edition was apparently in 1940. It's a bit ironic viewing the dozens of lovely color illustrations of Parisians enjoying their city when at the time this edition was published the Germans using it were probably Wehrmacht officers.

Magnificent illustrated book, with wonderful sketches, drawings, illustrations of famous paintings throughout. The used copy I found has a wonderful little inscription, as well as some little silloutettes on black paper, presumably of the original owner, done on some lovely day on a Paris street by an artist there.

Not a physical geography but a state-by-state suirvey of the US (after a brief general history). Contains a lot of interesting little nuggets of local history and tradition. Clearly intended for readers of about junior high level.

The text of this book is somewhat dated in places and not particularly exciting. The illustrations, however, are beautiful, especially the maps which simply glow with colour and are crowded with tiny detailed vignettes.

Ironie: je viens de quitter Paris – sans regrets – et le premier livre qui me tombe sous la main c'est ce petit livre délicieusement vieillot sur Paris qui reste peut-être mon préféré. Peu de valeur bibliophile, mais j'aime bien Dignimont…
