A decent enough analysis of Aaron Burr's precarious position in American literature. There is a great amount of scholarship and examination of literary sources to dig through, but for Burrites, the effort will be worth it. Several books mentioned by Nolan are already on my 'to-read' shelf. The author likes to insert his own opinion on the literary merits of some of these works, which seems unfair and unnecessary to the whole scope of the novel, but he at least defends his criticisms with direct quotes and a keen understanding of the landscape of the printed word in which these books and plays were released.
