The book is about a dog named Elmer who is a mutt going to obedience school with other dogs that are purebreds. He feels left out but his parents make him feel that it is okay to be different. This is a great book on teaching kids its okay to be different and not to be like everyone else. It is good to teach about characterization a well as teaching students to use dialogue.
