The rhyming text is great to read aloud and each spread invites readers to choose their own favorites among colors, pets, treats, hats, plants, instruments, and more.

"Hey, look - it's a horse in a hat."
The "horse" trots off on a solo journey, accompanied by the invisible narrator, who keeps denying that the unicorn is a horse in disguise. Clever illustrations make either answer plausible; a final spread shows horses/unicorns moving through a field of tall grass in silhouette, with the blades of grass standing in for horns - or maybe they really are horns. "Maybe you can only see unicorns...if you believe in them." The final illustration shows the same scene as the first, with a barn door half-open, a weathervane with a horse in a hat, and a lizard (front page) that's actually a tiny dragon (last page).

I read this book to my 5-year-old neighbor, Everleigh. Although she was initially a bit confused at first as to why I kept saying "to/too/two" so much, her final review was, "Like it." She especially enjoyed the cockatoos in tutus and the toucans doing the can-can.

Note: I received an autographed hardcover from the publisher at ALA Midwinter 2016.

A mouse in blue and white polka dotted shorts and a prairie dog in a red hat disagree on everything, until...

"We don't agree. We can't be friends. There's nothing more. This is the end."
"YES, I AGREE."

...The mouse and prairie dog find themselves in agreement. Each explains a little about their point of view ("Well, blue is sea. And blue is sky." "But red is leaves...and cherry pie") and agree that there's one thing they both like - friends!

It's likely no accident that their chosen colors are red and blue. Adults as well as children need the reminder that, differences aside, we can all be friends.

A little boy called Fritz is very excited to turn five...but five feels a lot like four. But there are a few small differences (with his new cape, he's able to jump high enough to reach apples from the tree) and there's hope (when he bites into the apple, he is sure he feels one of his teeth wiggle).

Fritz and his family are paper-white. A couple faces in Fritz's classroom are brown. The art style is somewhat similar to Peter Reynolds'.

A good answer to "How does it feel to be five?"½

Playful story about the choices we make every day and how we make them. Told in rhyme, children make choices from favorite color or hat to difficult choices like who to be friends with or deciding to go out on your own. Emphasizes that those choices will define who you are and how your life will proceed. The illustrations are engaging and will lead to further discussions.

"From here to the sea to the sky up above--
there are so many things in this world you can love."

Each page shows an array of choices, from dogs to hats to sweets to trees. Readers can spend as long as they like examining the options and choosing their own favorite, along with the kids on the pages. Our favorites become part of our identity, but they can also change as we change.

This would make a lovely gift book; it's great to spend a lot of time with one-on-one, or for an older kid to look at on their own.

Nicely illustrated. Great picture book for both boys and girls. I really enjoyed watching the "lizard" throughout the book.½

Absolutely and utterly charming. The illustrations work together closely with the words to present a tale of the magic that can be in the real world, all around us.

I like in particular that the book never takes a "stand" as to whether the unicorns are real or not. Instead, the book encourages the reader to find magic in the everyday. A beautiful story about magic and belief, and one that I'm happy to read to my daughter.

I received this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This book is so adorable and fun. I'd say for ages 6 and under. Definitely not a 'girly' unicorn book. No glitter, no rainbows, nothing overwhelming, which is why I think I loved it SO much! This is a book for ALL children, especially if those children believe in unicorns! It's clever and the artwork is very fun and colorful. And there is a little bit of fun interacting on the back cover as you get to create your own unicorn with the world around you. A great book for all kids. :)

Do you believe in unicorns? This charming picture book has everything a good picture book should have. The text is funny and will make children think. The illustrations are adorable, add to the story, and encourage children to look carefully.

This book is perfect for preschoolers as it is short with only a few lines of text on each page. But I could also see older children enjoying it as well.

I look forward to using this book in my library storytimes.

The illustrations are what truly make this book enjoyable. The story is a bit brief and the outcome is left entirely to the reader. My daughter and I enjoyed reading it through a few times, but I don't see it being chosen over other books in the future.

Cute book for the preschool set. My children enjoyed re-reading the book and looking for clues (the "horse" in the red hat is followed by flowers on page, sparkles on another, butterflies, etc.). Preschoolers often live in their imaginations and this book is perfect for them.

What a lovely book! The children each want it in their room so that tells me they liked it as much as I did. Liked the illustrations and the feel of the book, great size for reading to kids on my lap, and it is beautifully coloured. So glad we found it.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN UNICORNS? By Bethanie Deeney Murgula is so delicious you could eat it up with a spoon. It is a picture book to be read to young children but early readers could read it as well. The illustrations are scrumptious; beautiful sketches and a bright red hat hiding the unicorn that appears again and again. After reading this charming story I think I believe there are unicorns. I highly recommend this picture book for children.

Yes! Yes, I do believe in unicorns! "Do you Believe in Unicorns?" is a clever, imaginative and particularly well-illustrated book. The text compliments the story, but the real fun is in the illustrations. Is it a unicorn or is it a horse? The answer is truly up to the reader. I could see discussing this with a group of children. Going over the evidence. That would be an enjoyable debate. As such, I believe this book would work well as a read-aloud for story time. I also look forward to sharing it with my grandchildren. Highly recommended!

A cute and well illustrated kids book that poses the question why would a horse wear a hat? Surely the horse couldn't be a unicorn in disguise could it? This theme is played out over the ensuing pages. For me the charm of the book was in the illustrations. The text consists of about a sentence per page, so as cute as the book is it is really quite brief.

Cute story and illustrations. Short but great story for the younger kids. Tells the story of a horse wearing a hat but is it really a horse?
