Yellow Blues, by Sean Moore, is a cute picture book about a little girl, Jane, who really wants yellow rain boots but her parents won't buy them for her.

The art is very fun in Yellow Blues. It's perky, colourful, and eye-catching. As well, the message at the end of the story is valuable: exploring the difference between what one wants, and what one needs.

I'm not sure who the target audience is for Yellow Blues, but it was definitely not my three year old son. The language was a bit over his head - it takes away from the story to stop and explain what 'credit' means to a 3 year old. I also feel it is definitely a gender-specific book because, among other reasons, the phrase, "pink is the new black" is used repeatedly.

While I wouldn't recommend it for small children, or boys necessarily, I will be passing it on to my neices when they are old enough to enjoy it, as it is a cute enough book.… (altro)
