Neighborhood Witch is a short story about Nathan, who moves in next door to a witch when he relocates to a new town. Henny, the witch, is hated and shunned by the town, because they believe she is cursed and they might be injured if they got close to her. Nathan disregards this information and strikes up a close friendship with Henny. I enjoyed the book, but I felt it needed more to really get my attention. The story was a bit choppy, and there was almost no chemistry between Nathan and Henny, though it was the story of their romance. In addition, because she thinks she is cursed, Henny avoids everyone, so she really is not much different from the townsfolk who avoid her. In fact, Henny believes very strongly in the curse and its effect of causing injury, to the point that she also cannot possibly believe that the curse has been broken. I wondered about her character. She came across as too ready and accepting when shunned by the town. I got the impression she was someone who actually enjoyed being alone, with few or any friends. In addition, the author inserted a strange character into the story, in the form of a turnip, with lifelike qualities. I may be too conventional, but having a seeing and speaking turnip as a major character in the story was a bit much for me. Besides, this turnip really did not add anything to the story plot or Nathan and Henny’s romance. If you like the paranormal and strange, this may be the book for you. I received this from Library Thing to read and review.… (altro)

The book tells a story of Nathan who moved to a small village and found out that Henny, the beautiful woman living next door, was a witch. She was shunned by almost everyone in the village since she was believed to be cursed. No one wanted to come too close to her, fearing they might get injured. However, it didn't stop Nathan from wanting to know his new neighbour better. He didn't believe in the curse and wanted to prove to everyone that they were wrong. Although neither Nathan nor Henny planned this, they soon started to fall in love with each other.

But this is not only a love story. The book also teaches us that following the crowd is not always the best option. Sometimes we have to look closer, know someone better, see the features no one else noticed. We should have the courage to protect the ones who are wrongly accused.

The book is well written, it reads smoothly. The story is pleasing and full of funny incidents. The only thing that made me upset was that it ended so quickly. I'd love to read more about Nathan and Henny's adventures. This is a great story for an afternoon coffee.
