I enjoyed this. Witches versus vampires and ancient god in the middle. Neither side is automatically 'good'. Our heroine stumbles across an amulet thought to be lost, containing a gods' power and the vampires want it back, but are limited to a more gangster style existence, and have to be careful of mobs hunting them out.

May well read the rest of this.

Not particularly bad in any specific way but it just wasn't original.
I've read it all hundreds of times before. So I guess it's more of a me-problem?

The following is a slightly spoilery trope summary of this book but nothing major really.

MC with murdered family is the last living Phoenix gets framed for horrific crime, meets an insanely hot angel in training that is supposed to arrest her, he helps her to clear her name instead.
Lots of shenanigans ensue. We have all the tired and clichéed tropes you would expect. Supa hakka friend, instalust relationship with angst, super speschurl MC with lots of overpowered magic abilities, dead family.
The most annoying part to me was the whole convicted without good evidence bullshit. And that from the angels. It turns out the angels actually knew it was an inside job and just went along with the framing to get to the real culprit but this very much seems like a twist that was added after the fact and doesn't match up at all with the prior plot.
There are no hidden clues about anything. The book could have been discovery-written front to back without ever going back and adjusting anything at all.

It is a shame this anthology was so poorly edited.

Rejected Wolf Queen by Eliza Gayle: This STEAMY paranormal can be read in an afternoon but is spoiled by the author's inability to retain POV. 3*

Cloaked Ties by Aliyah Burke: Another STEAMY paranormal that can be read in an afternoon, this one addresses the abduction and abuse of children. 4*

Overall Opinion:
Immortals? Vampires? Witches? And an evil villain trying to take over the world? That my friends are the elements that make a good supernatural series. Despite the lack of romance, "Birth Of The Bacchae: A Vampire Origin Story" was a pleasant read that proved that the debut author was able to utilize her detailed writing style to enthralled the readers by actually creating a story and not some fufu romance story that would have left me rolling in my grave. An overall decent read with unexpected twists and turns, and provides the reader an insight on the origins and background of vampires.

What a fascinating book! So unique on its take on vampires, immortals etc...combined with gods of old. Sera is an archaeology graduate student on a dig in Italy. She alone was digging in an area nobody else cared to dig. More fool them as she discovers the find of a lifetime. A stunning necklace with a bright red stone bigger than a quarter. If only she knew her entire world was about to change. Her love of archeology instilled by her mother who herself died on a dig years before. Not long after discovering this necklace Sera began having strange dreams about the long ago past. Times where villagers in Italy still celebrated the god Bacchus in a yearly offering. How was the necklace and these dreams connected! Shadowy people begun following her, and oddly her senses slowly change every day since her find. Filled with supernatural events, history, a sassy god out to set things right, and crazy immortals wanting to rule the world. Can this archeology student find it within herself to find the answers and help save humanity? Can't wait for the follow up!
