Idina Menzel

While I love Idina Menzel's voice, I only "like" this CD. The more contemplative songs such as Silent Night (the most egregious) and Do You Hear I What Hear? are more brassy than I like. Make no mistake, they are performed beautifully; the belting voice and arrangements were simply not to my taste.

That same brassiness makes The Christmas Song, Baby It's Cold Outside, All I Want for Christmas, and Holly Jolly Christmas perfect.

The centerpiece of this CD is December Prayer. You can tell that Menzel really felt the lyrics which isn't surprising since this was co-written by her. It is easily my favorite on his CD.

I know that When You Wish upon a Star is frequently sung during the season, but to me it isn't a Christmas song. The same is true of River. Still they are well done.

If you like Idina Menzel's voice, I think you'll like this CD. If you like a jazzy vocal feel to your Christmas music, you should try it.… (altro)
