A Jack Whitfield thriller book #8

For those following this series we know that Jack is on the run and with his confidante Natasha they race across Europe hoping to find the truth about Jack’s past. While in Budapest his memory rocks him and together they must use any means to learn the truth. Would finding what really happened in his past free him from the disturbing images he has in his mind.....or his visions all fiction?...from then on we step into an unstoppable whirlwind and a massive roller-coaster ride.

This story has some exciting chases, maybe a bit over the top but it makes for a very exciting read. I love this series it is one of my best not only it is action packed it also provides us with unexpected twists and turns and outcome we don’t see coming. The plot moves so fast in this twisted story that I couldn’t help but flipping the pages at a raging speed. Oh yes I am repeating myself I say this with every story Mr. Mefford wrote and I probably will in the future also. This author has a knack for penning a story that keeps us on our toes and teases us in ways that we need to know what comes next. I love how Jack’s character is portrayed as a caring but also a deadly individual (two sides of a coin sort of). The narration is fast and furious just like the action.

Reading “The Last Disciple” I was off on journey of intrigues, discovery, subterfuge and death.....what a good read....

Another great addition Mr. Mefford keep them coming. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment

WOW! I read this book less than a day (work got in the way or I'd have taken less time)! Yeah, it is that good! I'm a character reader, I get into the characters, their story, who/what they are, why they do the things they do. The author does an amazing job of developing Ivy quickly & thoroughly. All the significant characters in his writing are developed similarly. This book is in all senses of the word, a thriller, beginning with Ivy as a teen in the foster care system, and then jumping to Ivy as an adult, an Investigator for child protective services. Darker than his Alex Trout books, that’s it, no more spoilers from me though I can see more about Ivy in the future. Outstanding read! John Mefford has rapidly become one of my favorite authors and Ivy has already surpassed Alex Troutt as one of my favorite characters!

WOW! I'm a character reader, I get into the characters, their story, who/what they are. The author has done an amazing job of developing throughout the first 4 books. The significant characters in his writing are developed similarly. This book is in all senses of the word, a thriller, building from the ground work laid in the first books and continuing with Alex's role in the FBI and in this book the tone is darker, grittier and focuses more on the cop aspects of her job. Mefford has really hit his stride with this book! That’s it, no more spoilers from me though I can see more about this character in the future. Outstanding read! John Mefford has rapidly become one of my favorite authors and Alex one of my favorite characters!

Jack Whitfield Thriller book # 7

This is another high-stakes thrill ride that kept me on my toes till I flipped the last page. Action packed as always and an exciting puzzle to plunge our teeth into and try to solve.

A coded letter.
A hit team.
And a shocking revelation.

The story in a few words:

When Karman learns of her father death ruled as a suicide she is certain it is not the case her dad definitely did not commit this act, she is positively lhe was murdered. She asks CLASS to investigate and to prove she is right. Jack looks into it and his research brings out another questionable death in Washington DC that may be linked to the days of the Cold War. Off he goes on a journey of intrigue, discovery, subterfuge and death.....

More thoughts:

Not a dull moment, action packed till the very end. It seems that someone is killing Russian defectors but where does Karman’s father’s death come in to play, we eventually find out. I found this saga to be very captivating following every movement with its many twists and deceptions was very hard not to be pulled in, it moves along so fast and has so many surprises for us it is difficult not to enjoy the comings and goings....The narration fast and furious just like the action.

Another great addition Mr. Mefford keep them coming. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment.

John W. Mefford's books have always had a lot of mystery, suspense, twists and turns, and action. This is the same with the new series he still has that writing talent. He has an amazing imagination. The book was good from start to finish and I look forward to more in the new series.

Jack Whitfied Thriller Book# 1

Mr. Mefford updated (rejuvenated) his Jack Whitfield series one that previously included 3 exciting books under the titles: “Never go back”, “Never say Die”, and “Now or Never”. He has included these books as parts in his new book “Barracuda “ along with a fourth part giving us a meaty book of 1000 pages to enjoy. He is still not finish with his protagonist... ”The Enemy Within “coming out later this year. I simply can wait to get a hold of it...

In the four parts, Jack must complete four missions for a shadowy group who controls his every movement. He must operate in foreign lands where he will be forced to manipulate people, blackmail and even kill. He cannot fail his missions the stake is too high...the lives of family and taking down the brokers behind this enigmatic organization.

Even if I read in the past the first three books I still was held captive with the intense suspense that never let go, the fourth parts is even more exciting. We find a narrative that is very visual and descriptive what a nail biting experience following Jack’s every move. His missions have many twists and turns, betrayals, attempts on his life as he faces more than one rough situation.

This is one massive roller coaster ride and a must for anyone enjoying a dynamic (hot) story.

Mr. Mefford you are an ace, thank you.

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Booker T. Adams is a former Dallas Police Officer turned Private Investigator. He met his gorgeous girlfriend at the scene of the horrific murder of her fiance on their wedding day a few months prior. When a ballerina is found murdered at an event they are attending, Booker is hired to investigate the crime. Added to that, Scianti, the mob boss, is at it again; trying to show the Double Ds that he owns them. Meanwhile, at the same time, Booker is determined to take down the dirty cops that forced him into early retirement.

This is a suspenseful murder mystery that draws you in from the very beginning. I was at the edge of my seat and could not wait to see what happened next. There's also lots of humor, as Cindy throws herself at Booker repeatedly. Mr. Mefford has a great imagination and his series is one every mystery lover will absolutely love. Be sure to check out my review next month of Booker Hate City, the next book in the series!

Book#3, in the Jack Whitfield Thrillers series

Jack third mission has the same simple objective: blackmail a hi-tech influencer. Things are not that easy, when out of nowhere, a rival terrorist organization blows up the entire mission and on top an old adversary has jack in sights. What should Jack do? While the clock is ticking...with no room for error he decides to go on the offensive and while doing so he gives us one of those dazzling ride full of intense action.

With breakneck speed Jack bring us deep into espionage and international intrigue. The pacing is relentless; the author doesn’t leave him breathing time. He is in one predicament after another. While his every movement is controlled Jack tries to outwit and outsmart the two clandestine groups hell-bent on upending the world order.

The story is well-written as usual and in his typical style we have a narrative that is very visual and descriptive. Being immersed in non-stop action and crazy insane act of evil from opening page till the conclusion is not only intense but can be also bewitching. With its many twists and turns at full throttle no way I was distracted. Every word kept me captive wanting to see if Jack will live another to go on his 4th mission...Till next time.

Mr. Mefford you have penned another winner I enjoyed very much. Thank you.

Jack Whitfield Thrillers Book # 2

The mission is clear:

From Lyon to Cairo and back again, Jack Whitfield exposes a conspiracy that could topple a government and ignite a new war in the Mideast.

My thoughts:

This latest did not disappoint this long-time fan, “Never Say Die” provides all the elements needed to make an exciting read hard to put aside. Filled with action, suspense and a mystery so tense, quite a nail biting experience we are into from start to finish. I like Jack Whitfield, he is a well penned character hard to not root for. He is a man coerced to do missions he really doesn’t want to do and is at the mercy of Simon who dictates what mission he needs to accomplish in order to get his daughter back. Simon sends him on wild adventures, in book #2 his second he must accomplish to achieve his goal...will he succeed?....But behind all this... the action of the enigmatic organization Jack works for could very well end his life at any time.....Yes, lots of mayhem to entertain us. What a dazzling ride of espionage and international intrigue filled with breakneck twists we are in for.

Mr. Mefford alludes quite a bit to what had transpired in book #1“Never Go Back”, nevertheless I highly suggest reading it first. It is as exciting as book#2.

Another winner John what a great adventure you gave us

Jack Whitfield series book #1

What a change in style Mr. Mefford gave us with his debut espionage thriller. With its relentless pacing and unexpected twists this action packed drama has definitely aroused my curiosity and interest from the opening page till I flipped the last one. In “Never Go Back” we are taking into the gritty world of industrial espionage and human trafficking.

It has been some time since Mr. Mefford added a book to his collection it was a long pause for us his long-time fans but the wait was well worth it. He has come back better than ever and has giving us one of those exciting hard to put down story. Yes a new character in Jack Whitfield, a man force to rescue a girl half a world away after his idyllic life was shattered and his daughter kidnapped. Jack is off to Macau, China on his mission to find Cai Chen. Now in a foreign theater Jack faces very bad actors even worse, the group he represents operates without any morals. Turned into a spy, Jack new persona talks with a British accent and knows the basic of mission tactics. Following him on his mission we have many twists and turns, betrayals, attempts on his life and more than one rough situation.

For those who like action, lot of suspense a great plot and a bunch of great characters you will be a contented with this one. Mr. Mefford outdid himself in style and flair....

Thank you Mr. Mefford and welcome back.

Booker, # 6

The story in a few words:

Booker T. Adams, PI, is asked by the chief of Dallas Police Department for assistance in flushing out a new breed of killer that has hit Dallas: the victims are one of their own. Booker shifts into overdrive to end this sinister game.

My thoughts in a few words:

Even with all his good intentions, Booker is always dragged into seedy situations and following him is a real roller-coaster ride. Once again, Mr. Mefford combines a terrific story line with action out of movie scenes. The action is fast-paced and seems to never end. In “Dead Heat” we meet different people: Bolt. A lovable teenager, Henry, works for the DA’s office and of course Alisa, Booker’s crime-fighting partner. We also have a police chief whose motives are questionable, a dangerous mobster and an old friend not so friendly at all. You would think that “Dead Heat” had all the elements needed to make a gripping read. Some would say yes...Then why did I have trouble keeping my mind on this story and staying focused: simply too many uninteresting side bars that distracted me: such as parties and games even superfluous events that added little to the story. Good read, but not the author’s best work.

I read a lot of books from this author and I generally think there are great although the Booker series is not my favourite I still think all 6 books are well worth reading.

Booker, # 5

“No more deception, no more lies, no more killing, no more”

This fifth installment brings Booker T. Adams to the Caribbean Island of Dominican Republic on a mission to rescue a teenage boy held hostage. Easy job for Booker....not so fast...Surprises await at every corner and his wild escapade sends him straight into the hands of the cartel.

Know your Spanish there are multiple comments said in that language with little translation or none at all but you can catch the drift somewhat as the story moves along. As all the books in this series, the pacing is fast, suspenseful and action is packed with many twists to keep us riveting till the very end. We learn a little more about Booker and his past and we get to meet his long lost dad and his murderous ex. What a mix. What a complete mayhem. Booker teams up with a very resourceful young man that knows the rope and is eager to be part of the recue. Of course things turn sour and bullets fly and people get hurt....but all ends well and the boy comes home safe and sound....awe.

Although this book is part of a series it can be read on its own but I find it nice to know the past characters and their relationship, it makes for a more complete experience.

“No Más ”, is a captivating read I enjoyed passing time with.... till next time....”Dead Heat” book #6.

Booker book #4

I love this one it ticked all the right boxes. “Blood Ring” provides an intense although disturbing subject matter from start to finish. Those with a weak stomach may find this story a bit hard to swallow but no worries for those thriller seekers you will be so deeply into it that you will hate to put it aside. This is one of the best stories IMO in this series....Now to pique your interest just a tiny little bit.....

The story in a few words

Time ticks....

Natalie (Booker’s assistant) wild sister is missing and her long-time friend was tortured to death, her body found in mucky waters...could there be a coincidence here? Is there a sexual predator on the loose? Will Natalie suffer the same faith as her friend?.... No time to waste, Booker springs into action and the chase in on for this invisible executor....But will there be enough time before it is too late. Enough time to stop other girls from being plucked off the street to never be seen again.

I don’t want to spoil the fun so you will need to pick up and read this book for all the nitty-gritty details.

More from little old me (lol)

Following Booker is a roller-coaster ride from start to finish so much pulse-pounding thrills in this plot, so many insurmountable obstacles awaits Booker and so many hoops needs to be jumped....more and more sticks in the wheel for our hero to surmount...ouf, plus being dragged into seedy situations by the end Booker will succeed or die trying and we are left with a read that is more than satisfying.

Mr. Mefford has a very twisted imagination in this adventure. Fast-paced and well said “Blood Ring” provides a very intense story for us to enjoy.

Thank you, Mr. Mefford for giving us hours of enjoyment.

Booker sure knows how to find himself in treaty situations. This time he is in the Dominican Republic trying to find his ex-fiance, Britney but ends up with a lot more going on than just finding her. He has a run-in with a drug cartel, a man who claims to be his father, and a young teenager who believes he’s a man. There was so much action in the book that it keeps you on your toes. I also thought this was the end for Booker for all the trouble he kept getting into. There were new characters introduced in this book and I really enjoyed the character, Bolt. He’s 14 living life on the streets but was a key player in helping Booker. Great read, a whole lot of action, twist and turns, and another home run for the author.

Booker, book #3

A revenge of fifty years in the making

Booker works two investigations in parallel: the murder of the CEO of a green energy company behind his million dollar estate and days later when thrust into the crossfire of a deadly sniper at the site of the JFK assassination.

Once again, Booker is dragged into seedy situations, slammed into obstacles that seem insurmountable.

This thriller juggles too many balls at once and points out another theory behind JFK assassination. For a large part things do not seem related and it takes way too long to come together although it does by the end, of course there is drama and suspense but much of it makes little sense. Weaving a historic tale of thrills and examining the justification of the unjustifiable is a hard task.

Am I getting bored with Booker or simply being too critical? I had a hard time getting into this book and remember what I was reading. The story was all over the place, too many characters and too long to come together. The pace is slow and keeps that way from start to finish. Some pages could have been omitted ex: a child’s soccer game very distracting...who cares and the JFK theory.... well one more.

Well maybe I am a fuddy-duddy sorry Mr. Mefford this story did not gel ...read and forgotten. I need a break from this series in order to enjoy the sequels later on.

The fourth book in the Booker Thriller series is as good as the first three. Booker and his partner. Alisa, start trying to find out what happened to Alisa’s sister Nataline who went missing 10 days ago. In a matter of a few days, Booker and Alisa manage to get themselves into the mystery of what happened in a world of drugs, money, and girl trafficking. The book’s characters are very well written and the scenery is described so you feel you are right there. The interacting between Booker and Alisa is great and I cannot wait for the next book.

Book #2 in, The Booker Thrillers series

A short synopsis:

A budding Broadway musical star is found dead, a single bullet to the head. Then it happens again, someone Booker knew. This became more a personal obligation than a professional one and running against time before another murder happens Booker is forced to solicit the help of a crime boss.

My thoughts in a few words:

I am a huge fan of this author and through the years I have read a fair number of his books and thought they were an excellent escapism that offered mainly exciting stories for us to enjoy. I have to make an exception with this one. This latest was so slow and so drawn out I lost focus many time and couldn’t even remember what I had just read. The story lacked the usual intense action to keep my attention at bay. I wasn’t even trying to outsmart Booker in his quest to do whatever he was set to do. In previous books I felt often challenge to be one step ahead of the protagonist not here. Yes, I found this book somewhat boring. Although to his credits, Mr. Mefford writes with a strong hand and doesn’t shy from giving us a story with a mysterious side ...maybe a little too much this time. I am not giving up on this author and will continue to be one is faithful fans and read book #3 “Hate City” shortly.

This is the way I see it. But don’t shy away from this author you may love “Tap That”

Once again, Booker gets himself involved and keeps the reader turning the pages. A great story in the Booker Thriller series and as in all of the books, great action, mystery and suspense is always there. Booker and his partner’s PI business seems to be going well and were hired to try to find stolen items from where JFK was shot, the Dallas Book Depository Museum. As they are trying to solve this mystery they get hired to find a killer of a CEO millionaire. Juggling two things just keeps Booker on target to get to the bottom of the cases. The book has a lot of different things happen which makes you want to keep reading. It will hold your attention! Great read!

As always, Booker gets himself in some interesting positions. As a reality new PI, he ends up being asked to help with the death of a performer at the local Dallas theater. Of course he says yes, especially since he’s getting paid. The character Booker seems like such a loveable person and the way he interacts with others is great. You can see the warmth and caring type of person he is but he also does get the job done. When another performer ends up dead and is a friend of his, that’s when he really steps up the hunt for the killer. The author is great and comes up with good reads every time. I will also say the ending took me by surprise. I’ve never read a book that desires anything less than a 5 and some really deserves 10 stars!

Greed series book #4

Michael Doyle has moved to San Francisco to reboot his life after losing his wife only to find himself embroiled into a more chaotic lifestyle. With Andi, his old intern by his side life does not stay peaceful and soon thing start to go haywire and dangerous on the street of Frisco. WOW, what a thrilling ride this duo gives us from page one till we reach the closing chapter.

To make the most of this book you really need to read the series in sequence although they all work well as stand-alone.

What a perilous adventure the author takes us with his characters, a plot filled with action, twists and turns you don’t see coming. The author knows how to combine visual effects in his writing to make an exciting and very absorbing read. Partly told from Michael’s point of view we move back and gradually forward in time to eventually reach the present day. This did not bother me; all chapters are well indicated to give a smooth transition. What a fast-paced, seat on the edge thriller filled with suspense, mystery and greed to enjoy. Oh yes terribly far-fetched....but a very captivating read nonetheless.

In a few words:

Captivating story, well said and executed by a range of rounded characters and we have quite a few to help Michael reach his goal...or not.... I am sad to see the last of Michael; “Greed Manifesto” brings an end to the Greed series.

Thank you Mr. Mefford for the hours of enjoyment

This is the 4th book in the ‘Greed series and I think the best. They are all good with a lot of action but this one was a hard book to put down. We are still following Michael Doyle but since he lost his wife, Marisa, he has moved to San Francisco and started a new life. He works as a journalist and is beginning to think maybe it’s time to start dating again. As he was thinking about it he saw a beautiful woman who Michael named The Natural. Now he is set on finding out more about Carmila, The Natural. Life is never dull or boring when it comes to Michael Dolye and he sure gets beaten up when he believes he saw Carmila kidnapped and made it his mission to find her. With the help of some of his friends, they got shot at, beaten up, walking in a tunnel and never sure who to trust. As with the entire series, Michael Doyle gets beaten up pretty badly and I wonder how on earth he can get hurt anymore. Oh, but he does. The book has a lot of mystery, twist and turns which makes it a page turning book. Great read!

Greed thriller #3

A shadow of death swallows up one beautiful young lady after another…and no one can stop it.... in the end, lives will be forever changed. And one will not survive......grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Michael, the main character, continues to work hard at the newspaper when he find himself investigating horrible murders of young women, each had massive slashes to the throat... gruesome scenes hard to swallow ...

With a powerful prose peppered with details we are taken on a wild spin of evil, greed and corruption. The scene setting is as brutal as it is necessary although we do have some comic relief in this tense story. It starts slowly and I wondered where the story was going at first but it didn’t take too long before the greed of flesh and lust was most prominent. Of course we have a side story in the mix I wondered at what point the two stories would mesh. Too entrenched by then I kept pushing forward eager to figure out who was behind all this. But Mr. Mefford had other things in mind that divulging too early the outcome teasing us till the very last moment.

In few words

In “Wicked Greed” we are in a complex plot doubled with intricate subplot everything wrapped nicely and played out with compelling characters. A fabulous story that had me turning pages quickly from start to finish.

Thank you Mr.Mefford for the opportunity to read this book.

Once again, the author continues the Greed Thriller series with a great second book. The story continues with MIchael Doyle not just a journalist but a want to be detective good guy. As with all of the author’s work, the character’s are all distinctly different but so believable. There is always a little humor in the main character. This book is no different. Continuing with a murder in the last book, North Texas has a new monster in town and that is drugs. For Michael, the teen overdoses in the area and the kidnap of his friend's wife makes him want to get to the bottom of it. He, along with his colleagues, decide to find out exactly who is killing the teens and get their friend's wife back. Besides it would make a great article for the paper. They travel into Mexico and not a minute is without an adventure. What they see in Mexico is not what was expected but they needed to get to the bottom of what was going on. They have a young intern willing to play the part of a high school student to see their side of what was going on. She watched as students got drunk and did illegal drugs as if it was nothing….just a party. Michael, Andi and the rest of the team go through a lot to get to the what was happening back home while they are running for their lives in Mexico. A lot of mystery, suspense and thrill. Great book!
