3.5 stars. While not a traditional mystery, Mystery at Magnolia Mansion is an intriguing novel with a lovely cast of characters. To read my review in its entirety, please visit http://www.bookreviewsandmorebykathy.com/2012/06/01/mystery-at-magnolia-mansion/

I have to be honest here. These weren't what I was expecting. They were a little slow for my tastes-at first. Perhaps a romance story being written by a man (I've found a few I've enjoyed but still have questions on some!), is what lead me to have a bit of trouble getting into the stories. After pushing through the first third of both of these books I ended up enjoying them when McNair trumped over that slowness with intriguing mystery and tender romances, creating stories that I was,in the end, happy that I read.

Mystery On Firefly Knob was a sweet story. Despite the slow beginning, I enjoyed reading Erica and Mike's stories. Erica learned she had a biological father who she was named for, and, upon his accidental death, inherited a beautiful estate from him. When she arrives on the estate she's brought face to face with Mike Callahan, a handsome man who pulls her heart strings, and wants her to keep the estate. It's the home of unique fireflies that he's researching, and he doesn't want her to sell. Erica wants her way....and Mike wants his. These two butt heads and come to terms with their feelings for each, but not before a mysterious mystery unravels before them.

Mystery At Magnolia Mansion is also a sweet story. David and Brenda's characters are perfect for each though they each have their own thoughts on that! Brenda is trying to help David redesign, but Brenda wants to do things a certain way, and can't quite understand David's controlling side. David wants Brenda to understand certain things about her life, both professionally and where he fits in. But, these two have some serious hurdles to cross as they work together on this mansion, and try to find away to make their feelings for each other work!

Despite that slow beginning for both of these, I can't give these less than a 4 Book rating. They ended up filled with awesome mystery, romance and excitement. The reader becomes friends with the characters, hanging on every page turn, wanting to know what will happen next. I am glad that I gave these books a go and am looking forward to more of these kinds of books by this talented author! If you love sweet romance, mixed with tender characters and lots of mystery, then you will enjoy Mr. McNair's mysteries.
