Very interesting, if somewhat cursory, view into the lives of various leaders of various Native American tribes before they were completely swamped by white Americans. It's quite dated in its view of the "noble savage", and in its overly laudatory view of the civilizing effects of European civilization and religion, but still a valuable and educational read. Not to mention its glorious lithographs of the leaders mentioned in the book.
