R. M. McDowall (1939–2011)

Bob McDowall wrote 13 books and almost 500 articles and book chapters about freshwater fish. Several of his books have become standard reference works. He was for many years Manager, Freshwater Fisheries, in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, before stepping down to focus on research. He gained an MSc from Victoria University of Wellington and a PhD from Harvard University, and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
