Enjoyed reading tremendously - the traveler takes the train to the border and then travels mostly by diligence to Mexico City and elsewhere and describes in perfect detail everything he sees as well as most of what he thinks and much of what is said in conversations with other travelers. They stop overnight and leave most mornings by 4:00 to continue and at one point the diligence breaks down 9 miles from a village so he and 2 other men walk the distance in the heat of the sun and at very high altitude. Breakfast is always coffee & bread and other meals are usually a tortilla, beans if lucky and maybe a scrap of meat but always a lot of onion, garlic & chilies. The traveler is very anti Catholic church and breaks into those thoughts often but his thoughts he considers "liberal & progressive" & he must have been raised attending a protestant church because he often quotes scripture but never refers to his religious affiliation or background. After double checking the author's name, I find he is a "reverend" but his thoughts veil that fact. Written in a very adventurous, interesting and exciting manner - I highly recommend.… (altro)
