This book is not about the abuse as such, although some of it is narrated. What it is really about is Katie's life long battle to recover from it and attain a measure of normality. The harrowing part is how every aspect of her life was affected by the way her father treated her as a child.

Her style is easy to read. You get the feeling that even now that her mind knows that the things she suffered are horrible, her emotions still take them for granted.
