An old fashioned romance, this is one of those books you can breathe in in a weekend.

Brody and Elle are widower and widow, both young and hot and struggling with their grief over losing the love of their life. There isn't much story other than this, as the two find the courage to expose their hearts. It's a very easy read, if a touch unsatisfying because almost everything about it seems more contrived that one expects in the contemporary novel these days. But the fact that it is so easy to read, with enough to pull you along, has got to be due to some degree to Jennie Marts' writing skills.

I haven't heard of her before but she's written 6 series, usually around cowboys, and is linked to two other writers I haven't heard of, Carolyn Brown and Kari Lynn Dell.

A Cowboy Country Christmas by Jennie Marts
Book 6 of the Creedence Horse Rescue series, a spinoff of The Cowboys of Creedence series. Contemporary western romance. Can be read as a stand-alone, but family and couples from prior books appear briefly in the final chapter of this book.
Holt Callahan is a Christmas holiday Grinch. He’s been dumped at Christmas more than once. Lainey McBride is the exact opposite. She loves the holidays and has come home to run the Christmas event at the family farm while her grandfather is away. Lainey and Holt fall into old childhood patterns of spending their time together and soon find their hearts involved. But they haven’t discussed what happened back when she first left town, both of them heartbroken.

Sentimental and touching. But they needed to talk about the past! Heartwarming family ending. Love the little goat and the donation they received for future care of it.

I love knowing how the hero feels:
“Her nearness could send jittery nerves spiraling through his stomach that made him feel like a love-crazed teenager”.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

A great first in series introduction to mystery writer Bailey, her daughter Daisy and the Hive, her beekeeper grandmother and her ‘book club’. The cast is likeable, the setting charming and there’s secrets galore still lingering after the shocking conclusion of book one making me want to dive into a sequel!

Take The Honey And Run is the first book in the A Bee Keeping Mystery series by Jemmie Marts.

Bailey Briggs and her twelve-year-old daughter, Daisy, have returned to Humble Hills, Colorado. Bailey is returning to help her grandmother, Blossom(Granny Bee), who has broken her foot, around her honeybee farm. As they pull up in the driveway, Bailey sees Granny Bee having a heated argument with the founder and mayor of Humble Hills, Werner Humble. Bailey will soon stop by Humble’s house to smooth over things and discover what caused the argument with Granny Bee. Bailey can see Humble on the dining room floor and tries to enter the house. Sheriff Sawyer Dunn, who Bailey had just run into, breaks open the door. They find Humble dead, a large biscuit with Granny Bee’s honey spread on it, and a large bite taken out of it next to his body. Humble was known to be allergic to honey and most likely died of anaphylactic shock. Granny Bee will become the primary suspect as Sawyer heard her threaten him the day before at her home. Sawyer had been Bailey’s boyfriend during high school but hadn’t had any contact since then.

Bailey will ask her good friend, Evie, to help with the investigation into who might have wanted Humble dead. Bailey has written several mystery books and will also call on a private investigator she has used to help get her books right. Bailey also will call upon The Hive, a group of Granny Bee’s sisters and friends. It quickly becomes apparent that there is no shortage of people who want to see Humble out of the picture.

Take The Honey And Run is a great start to this series. The characters are believable and well-developed. I enjoyed The Hive; they provided the right amount of humor. Daisy was a wonderful character; she was considerate to her elders and was eager to help her mother investigate. There is also an adorable Golden Retriever who will be the hero. The story is well-written, plotted, and descriptively told. There were enough twists and turns that I kept guessing until the end, when the murderer was revealed. The book moves at a nice pace.

There are delicious-sounding recipes included in the book.

I’m looking forward to the next book to see Bailey and Sawyer will become a couple once again.

Book#1 in the Beer Keeper’s Mystery

The title and picture on the cover attracted my attention I simply couldn’t resist asking for this novel. This cozy mystery is the perfect read when you want a story that is fun and not too challenging, a perfect book to bring with you on vacation.

The story moves along in a fictional town in Colorado with Bailey Biggs and her young daughter coming to see their grandmother (granny Bee) who runs Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch where she raises bees for their honey and sells it in various forms. Everything goes smoothly till the mayor highly allergic to honey is found dead with his face smeared in Granny Bee’s honey......Granny is the first to be suspected of killing him....and the fun begins.

This story has an interesting premise – the murder weapon honey is quite unique and to top it all we have plenty of suspects to go around. Well written to be engaging without giving us too much to think about. A bit too much by me was that the main character stayed ahead of the sheriff pointing at facts he never saw...was he that bad? For an outsider Bailey was a bit too smart but again her grandmother needed to be vindicated. The style simple and clear is also funny I laugh (smile) at some of the passage so much shenanigans trying to solve the murder. I can’t miss telling you we are lured with mouth-watering menus...tempting sweet goodies throughout.

Cute story I didn’t mind passing time with.

My thanks to Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for this ARC

TW: abuse, mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, body shaming

This book had at many good things going for it, it was A fun read despite some of the dark themes. I laughed out loud, got teary eyed by some of the suffering and poignant scenes, and enjoyed the steamy ones.

One part that bothered me was the MC constant harping on her weight. I understood she had self esteem issues stemming from her past, but it still was hard to read. I wish the resolution was "I find you sexy and appealing as you are, you're worthy of love" and not "but you're not fat, you're sexy."

― “Love is stupid. I don’t get why everyone is always getting so worked up over this love deal. If you ask me, love sucks. It doesn’t make you feel good . It only makes you feel like shit. Like someone reached inside your chest and ripped your dang heart right out. Why would anyone wish for that?”
Overall Opinion:
What is with me and cowboy stories nowadays? Sure I've never been a big fan of them so I'm guessing I'm still trying to find one that one Western Romance that completely wins with over. Believe it or not, this one almost did. I'm pleasantly surprised how much I really liked “Caught Up With A Cowboy”. It was a cute romance story starting Chloe, who is a third grade elementary school teacher that helps coach the hockey team while trying to overcome her obvious crush on Colt, a cowboy who is back home on the family ranch after a car accident that ruined his shot at a professional hockey career. Little encounters and accidental touches enlighten a fire in their hearts but would they risk everything for love when a real enemy threatens the irresistibly charming teacher Colt can't keep his mind off?

The lead characters are wholesome and realistic. They didn't live ideal lives and their background definitely explains a lot about their actions. Chloe had a rough upbringing when her mother ran off and she got stuck the burden and the misery of being raised by Butch Bishop, her alcoholic father that damaged her in more ways than one. That allowed her to feel more than sympathetic towards some of her students, whom had similar upbringings but unlike them, her childhood had ultimately destroyed her self-esteem making her believed she's not worthy of the sexy cowboy who she had been crushing on the last two months. Colt on the other hand still struggles with a car accident that not just ended this professional hockey career but made him lost the girl he thought he’d marry and any plans for college scholarships went up in smoke.

Their attraction and strong connection to each other was there from the get-go but they struggle to to comes in terms with what they're feeling. Unbeknownst to them, the feelings are mutual and they're were stuck in the more than friends, less than lovers stage. The feelings come to play when Chloe's life is threatened by Rank Johnson, her neighbors abusive father who was recently released from prison. When in confrontation with the man, Chloe looked up at him and saw her father’s face, and she was like an injured animal caught in a trap. Snarled in this ambush of the past and the present blending together, she was rendered useless before the authorities came. When Colt discovers she’d been attacked and threatened by her neighbor’s crazy husband, he's willing to do everything in his power to protect her and his actions doesn’t go unnoticed. His comforting words and actions soothed her battered heart, touching a part of her that she normally kept locked away. Unsure where he stood with his feelings, Chloe didn’t know if the cowboy was offering her a friendly hand because she was part of his community or he shared her feelings too. For once in her life, to get an answer on how Colt felt about her, Chloe decided it's time to be bold and take action. Who knew all it would take was for her to drop her towel.

The premise was quite refreshing, the concept was unique and differ from other series I have read as of late, and how the characters were able overcome their fears and took the chance on love sealed the deal for me. The romance definitely wasn't rushed and it slowly built over time. Obviously this wasn't series perfect. Chloe insecurities was the elephant in the room and the leads constant back and forth was overly played but that that didn't take away from the story. Overall this was not I was expecting when I picked up this novel. It wasn't the best of the best Western Romance I've read but Jennie Marts’ descriptive words, the flow and mesh of characters, that also includes secondary, made this story for me. After “It Started With A Cowboy”, I look forward reading the remaining books of the “Cowboys of Creedence” series.

Cowboy Ever After by Jeannie Marts
Contemporary western romance. Hallmark format.
An author is sent to a family ranch in Montana so she can live the real life experiences of working in barns, with horses and cows, fences and small town living.
The meet cute: A goose yell sends her into his arms in alarm.

Carrot cake recipe included at the end of the book.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook Narrate by Virginia Rose. The performance was well done with distinct voices for the hero and heroine. Emotions and occasional sound effects were clear. The best speed for me with recording was between 1.3 and 1.5
Sweet, and adorable. The heroine is innovative and brave.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing.

The past and the present converge for two yearning hearts in "Rescuing Harmony Ranch: A feel-good romance from Hallmark Publishing". Author Jennie Marts infuses this sweet second-chance contemporary romance with interesting glimpses of life in the Old West at the transition from the 19th century to the 20th century. Years ago, after a disagreement between Jocelyn Stone's mother and grandmother, her mother had left Colorado with Jocelyn in tow and moved to New York. Jocelyn had eventually successfully pursued a marketing career, but now she was being called back home to help out her grandmother, Molly, who had been injured in a car accident. Putting her promotion goals on hold for a two-week leave, she reruns home to Harmony Ranch, a living history museum and working ranch. Visitors to the ranch saw staff dressed in period costumes demonstrating what life was like for homesteaders in the early 1900's. The first person Jocelyn runs into at the ranch is Mack Talbot, her childhood friend who had become her young sweetheart and, later, the boy who broke her heart. Mack was now living on the ranch as the blacksmith and caretaker. Seeing each other again is a shock to the system for them both, bringing a rush of feelings and memories both bitter and sweet. Jocelyn learns that Harmony Ranch is in financial trouble, and Molly needs the upcoming Spring Festival to be the biggest one yet in order to keep the property in the family. Using her marketing skills, and with the the help of Mack and others, Jocelyn works to help her grandmother hold on to her dream. Jocelyn wasn't the only one whose heart had been battered years ago when she and Mack went their separate ways--he still cared deeply for her and hoped she would remain in Colorado. When the festival is over, will Jocelyn return to New York, or can he convince her to stay with him and share a future together? Jocelyn's feelings for Mack have never stopped, but can she take a big leap of faith and follow her heart? "Rescuing Harmony Ranch" is a touching and heartwarming reunion romance that will make you smile--and make you crave peanut butter pie.

This was a fun book from Hallmark Publishing and included the elements I’ve come to expect in a Hallmark book: a spunky heroine, a hunky hero, a good reason to keep them apart, but a fun time watching them fall in love and figure out a way to be together anyway.

Jocelyn and Mack were childhood sweethearts in Colorado, until her mother moved her to New York City. Their love story ended, although neither forgot the other. It’s been a decade, and when Jocelyn’s grandmother needs her help, Jocelyn drops everything to fly back to the ranch. After finding out the ranch is in trouble, Joss and Mack are forced to work together to save it. And they find out they still have feelings for each other. But how can they make a relationship work when her life is in New York and his in Colorado?

I enjoyed this entry in the Country and Cowboys series from Hallmark Publishing. I’ve read at least one other in the series, too. This was well written, and Jocelyn and Mack are both strong characters. There’s one cliched plot element I saw from the beginning and wished hadn’t been used, but I guess the author and her brainstorming team couldn’t find a way to keep the couple apart without using it.

Overall, I liked this one a lot and I recommend it!

I received a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher, but it did not induce me to review it, favorably or not.

You Had Me at Cowboy by Jennie Marts is a sweet yet steamy love at first sight romance. Although this newest release is the second installment in the Cowboys of Creedence Creek series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Reporter Tessa “Tess” Kane is devoted to her beloved grandmother “Mimi”, who has gotten herself into a very precarious financial situation. Determined to help Mimi, Tess finds herself in an untenable situation in order to keep her job. Her latest assignment is to uncover the dirt on hockey player Rockford James and his upcoming quickie wedding. Meeting Rock’s brother, Mason, provides her with the opportunity to get the inside scoop but her unexpected attraction to Mason quickly complicates the situation. With Mimi’s future hanging in the balance, will Tess continue surreptitiously gathering information for her article once her feelings for Mason deepen?

Mason is loyal to his family and he loves working on the family ranch. He and Rock have a great relationship but he is often eclipsed by his famous brother. Having been used in the past by women who want to get close to Rock, Mason avoids romantic entanglements. He is instantly captivated by Tess and he is surprised by how well-matched they seem to be. His insecurities occasionally lead to doubts but overall, Mason is happy with how well his new romance is progressing.

Tess is wracked with guilt about using her fledgling relationship with Mason to gather information on Rock. However, she feels like she has no choice but to write the article in order to secure her job and earn some much needed money. When Mason finally learns the truth, will he give Tess chance to explain? Or will his previous experiences cloud his judgment?

You Had Me at Cowboy is well-written, but the plot is predictable and some of the situations are a little over the top. Mason is a likable and sympathetic character but Tess is a little too stubborn and her lack of honesty is a bit irritating. The chemistry between Mason and Tess is palpable but the love at first sight element of their romance is unrealistic. With a quick resolution to the conflict between Mason and Tess, Jennie Marts brings the novel to a sigh-worthy conclusion. The brief glimpse of Colt and his love interest Chloe will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next book in the Cowboys of Creedence Creek series.

Wish Upon a Cowboy is book 4 in author Jennie Marts Cowboys of Creedence series. I read and enjoyed the first book in the series, Caught Up in a Cowboy, a few months ago so I happily dove into this installment.

Harper Evans is a young widow and mom who has just gotten out of jail. She spent a little over a year locked up because of her something her mother unknowingly dragged her into. She arrives in Creedence Colorado with little to no money and looking for a job. Since she’s been away her mother-in-law took temporary custody of her 8 year old son Floyd. Harper is a widow, her husband passed away and Floyd is the only person in her life. She has a house back in Kansas so she wants to take her son home.

Logan Rivers is a cowboy and hockey coach who lives in Creedence and runs the family ranch. He is looking for a housekeeper. When fate intervenes, he hires Harper to cook and clean for him and she is happy to have an income. She doesn’t tell Logan anything about her past or the reason she came to Creedence in the first place. She begins to make friends with Logan and she fears he will judge her if he knows she was in jail and might be losing custody of her son. These two try to fight their attraction towards each other but they have some great chemistry.

I found Wish Upon a Cowboy to be a sweet and easy read. I laughed out loud at times with the interactions between Logan and Harper on the ranch. Although this is book 4 in this series, it reads fine as a standalone. One of my least favorite tropes is featured here, the “dating your boss” trope, but I went in with an open mind and I enjoyed this one very much. Author Jennie Marts has a fun way of weaving a charming romantic story centered around small town life.

There’s a few little plot twists and surprises here and there and it all wrapped up nicely in the end. I recommend this one to fans of contemporary romance.

First of all, can I just mention the cover. THAT is how you put a cowboy on a cover. Simple yet effective.
This book centers around famous NHL player Rockford James and his high school sweetheart Quinn Rivers. Rock has recently suffered a concussion on the ice and is sent back home to small town Creedence Colorado to heal. While back home he runs into Quinn. The two grew up together and were high school sweethearts and best friends. Nine years ago Rock left his small hometown to go to college after being offered a hockey scholarship. He left Quinn behind as well. He and Quinn have seen and spoken to each other very rarely since he left. Quinn has never fully gotten over her broken heart since Rock left but she follows his career and watches his games since he was drafted by the NHL. She is the single mom of an 8 year old son Max. Quinn had a one night stand after Rock left and Max’s father is not in their lives but she is fine with that. She still lives on her father’s ranch and her life centers around her son.

Rock has always regretted leaving Quinn behind he wishes he had somehow brought her with him when he left town all those years ago. Now that he’s back home he is instantly drawn to her and wants to make amends. He starts to spend time with Quinn and her son Max. Quinn still harbors the pain of Rock leaving her and she is not fully ready to forgive and forget anything plus she has her son to think of. Although she agrees to be friends again with Rock, all her old feelings for him resurface and she can’t help admitting to herself that she never stopped loving him. Much of the story revolves around Quinn wondering if she can forgive Rock and trust him enough to let him in her life romantically again.

The writing flowed smoothly and I was instantly drawn into the story-line, which also has a few funny scenes thrown in. I enjoyed the small town vibe and the sights in Colorado. Ranch life is described as well. I also liked that Quinn is a good mom to Max. Rock starts spending time with them and he easily and genuinely befriends Max.

This book is about lost love reunited, forgiveness and family. Overall, I gobbled it up and wanted seconds.

"You Had Me at Cowboy" by Jennie Marts

My Rationalization:

I enjoyed this standalone read "You Had Me at Cowboy." It was quite interesting when Mason who was used to standing in his brother Rock's [professional hockey player]shadow and losing many girls he had met to him. However, when he meets Tessa for some reason he thinks his luck as changed. There will be plenty of twists and turns with 'major missteps and partial truth along with heard headedness that will be presented until they find their way to a HEA.' This story was quite a read where this author brings us quite a good read of its description of a town and what can happen to its town, its beautiful scenery, along with some very interesting characters [Tessa's grandma Mimi] and oh yes a puppy that will add to this entertaining good story.

Chloe and Colt managed to fumble their way through friendship & find themselves in a relationship. Chloe has low self esteem & has trouble believing Colt is actually attracted to her. Colt is trying to find ways to make sure they spend time together without being obvious about it. Chloe is a typical young teacher totally concerned with anything related to her students. Colt could tell that was a way to keep her involved.

Jennie Marts has a talent for giving her readers ordinary characters that they can identify with & relate to. Chloe is the personable teacher who cares for her students but is introverted & awkward socially. Colt is the uncle who loves his nephew & is attracted to his teacher but doesn’t know how to approach her. I really enjoyed reading the dance these two engaged in. They were both oblivious to how the other felt. Chloe’s students & Colt’s family added extra depth to the story & their feelings. I was pulled into the story from the first & was kept entertained.

ARC Review: Stolen Away (Hearts of Montana) by Jennie Marts

Jennie Marts is an author that is not afraid to delve into all the pieces that shape a person into who they are and have yet to become. Stolen Away was the most recent example of that skill. Years of neglect and abuse mentally and physically has left Emma unsure of herself and scared to trust. Cash is the man who gently breaks through and gives her the strength to face her past. Protecting her becomes his priority, teaching him the meaning of love becomes hers. I am a fan of stories of courage and Stolen Away is a redemption story that makes the heart rejoice.

Recently there has been a new trend within the world of romance fiction. I hope it sticks around. In a world where females are relegated to second class citizens, I love that more authors are empowering women with their independent heroines. With Skirting the Ice, Ms. Marts created a wonderful role model in Murphy Ryan. She's a dreamer with a fighting spirit and negativity only strengthens her resolve. Her truth lies in the success of a women's hockey league and she is willing to go the distance in order to make her fantasy reality. Along the way, this firecracker makes enemies, reconnects with an old friend and mixes it up on the ice. Skirting the Ice tackles sexism, romance and mystery through the eyes of an inspiring individual with humour and heart. Positive message, captivating story and impacting reading.

With an opposites attract, hero is a former cop and current gritty jaded P.I.and heroine is a fun loving self-proclaimed witch who can communicate with the dead, set-up, Halloween Hook-up was a sexy, dash of spookiness, and fun read. The heroine and hero had great chemistry with their polar personalities and sexual heat. It's a short story so the attraction happens fast but honestly, it didn't feel like insta-lust/love. They were just so darn adorable together! The ghost, murder mystery, jewel heist felt a bit forced and rushed but it still came together enough to feel credible. If you're looking for a quick Halloween read you definitely want to pick this one up. I'm going to check out the other books in the series because I really liked the cute, sexy, and great flow to this author's writing.
