Marian Martinello grew up in New York City, attended public schools, completed her bachelor's and Master's degrees at Queens College of the City University of New York (CUNY), and earned her doctorate at Teachers College, Columbia University. She taught in New York and California public schools, mostra altro and in teacher education programs at Queens College, CUNY, the University of Florida, and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) where she directed the Interdisciplinary Studies degree program and federally funded projects for teacher education. She received teaching awards in Florida and Texas and was named a Minnie Stevens Piper Professor in 1982. Her publications include articles and books, now in second editions, on inquiry learning, published by Merrill/Prentice-Hall and Alliance Press. Her award winning titles for young readers, young adults, and teachers on the history and cultures of Texas were published by the Institute of Texan Cultures, Texas Christian University Press, and Corona Publishing Company. Dr. Martinello retired from UTSA in May 2000 as Professor Emerita and continues to inquire into topics of personal interest. She writes for young adults from those experiences.
