An impressive account of the authors search to uncover the life that a trooper of the Spanish Presidio of San Antonio de Bexar (San Antonio in modern Texas) would have lived and fought during the years 1774 through to 1780's. Using archive documents, artifacts and with much help from local and specialist experts she is able to sub-divide each chapter into the search for the facts that would create the second part of the chapter which is the story section. This last section helps to bring these events and items to life for the reader. Very helpful to the budding history teacher who would like to motivate their pupils in the research process for course work. It's also an interesting read for the historian too.½
