This review is for the original 1945 version of the book. Although it describes in great detail exactly what took place, it also suffers from lack of information on the survivors themselves. It reads like a military report which is what it is, I guess. I didn't want a "movie" version, but it is quite dry reading.

A booklet with postcard-size photographs of ships in some way connected with South Africa, with an accompanying page of text describing some notable event of the war. Covers not only warships and troopships but also merchantmen. Intended as the first of a series.

An uncensored expansion of Marsh’s wartime work of the same name, on the sinking of the Dunedin Star. The co-author has popularised and developed the story from new sources and his imagination.
