- Breve biografia
- Laurie Magnus was the son of Conservative MP and teacher Sir Philip Magnus and Lady Katie Magnus. In 1903, he married Dora Spielmann, daughter of Sir Isidore Spielmann and Emily Sebag-Montefiore. He was educated at St. Paul's School, London, and graduated from Oxford University. He served as a Major in the Royal Defence Corps, and worked as a director of George Routledge & Sons. He was a member of the Council of the Royal Society of Literature. Laurie Magnus wrote a number of books, including A Primer of Wordsworth (1897), An Introduction to Poetry, (1912), The Third Great War in Relation to Modern History (1914), General Sketch of European Literature in the Centuries of Romance (1918), and Dictionary of European Literature (1926). He also wrote The Jews in the Christian Era and Their Contribution to its Civilization (1929), and served as editor of the Jewish Guardian, which he made into a widely-respected Jewish journal during the 1920s. Laurie Magnus pre-deceased his father, so his son Philip Magnus-Allcroft became the 2nd Baronet.
