- Mary (Molly) Josepha Warre-Cornish was the daughter of Francis Warre-Cornish, vice-provost of Eton College, and Blanche Ritchie, a novelist. In 1906, she married Sir Desmond MacCarthy, a noted literary critic, and the couple had two sons, Michael and Dermod, and a daughter, Rachel. The MacCarthys were members of the Bloomsbury Group along with Vanessa Bell, Virginia Woolf, Clive Bell, John Maynard Keynes, and others. Molly McCarthy wrote several books including A Pier and a Band, the memoir A Nineteenth-Century Childhood, Fighting Fitzgerald and other Papers, and Handicaps: Six Studies.
