A hybrid of travel writing and a travel guidebook, with the travel writing elevating this work into a timeless category. The specific recommendations are almost certainly decades out of date, but the photographs and written experience of the author traveling the french canals is what makes this fascinating. John Liley has a few other books in the same vein that I will be keeping my eye out for, he's not an easy person to google.
