This was such an interesting read and I need to know what happens next. The story started out slow with a sick little girl Kali and her mom coming down the mountain to seek medical help. But a storm is making that possible. Mom, for years, has told the story of the Mannamong, or beings that protect the earth. During this storm things happen, and Kali actually gets to meet the Mannamong. She also finds out that she is so sickly because a nardowell mannamong has taken up residence insider her. With their help they mannamong will be pried loose, but that is just the beginning of the story. This sad little, slightly evil mannamong continues to cause problems for Kali after she gets well. The story is really fun. I like how the author breaks between chapters by including the legends of the mannamong. I also really love the artwork, weather it's the bright cheery colors, or the dark sobering panels. However, I hate the cover. After reading the book, I get the cover, but having gone in blind, i might not have picked up this tale. The cover feels very angry and mean, while the story is one of reliance and hope. I can not wait to see how the story continues.
