Excellent True story about Peter's journey from Hungary in World War 2 to the infamous Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The determination of Peter's mother to keep him alive despite her terrible losses and hardship is absolutely incredible and the book should really be called the Mother who didn't want her son to die as her sacrifices and careful planning to make sure they save food and do extra jobs to earn food throughout her time in the camp is the reason why Peter survives. Gut wrenchingly simple at times - statements like "And that was the last time we saw Aunt Anna or Zsuzsi." You see the war through both the eyes of a child of 6 years old but also knowing what is really happening ( and that it actually happened) makes the book all the more poignant. It would be a great companion novel to Boy in Striped PJs or Once by Morris Gleitzman.… (altro)
