I really wanted to like this book. Religion overpowered the story line and historical aspect. The repetitiveness/retelling of many phrases was off-putting.

Once again the author does a great job of showing the plight of the Cherokee Indians as they are once again forced to move because the U.S. government fails to keep their promise to them. It is 1889, and the Cherokees are being moved onto reservations within Oklahoma District, so the the rest of the land can be opened up for white settlers to homestead. In this story you will meet some of those settlers as they prepare for the great land rush. And you will see some of the conflicts and frustration of the Cherokee people. This was a series where I learned a lot of history, especially about the Cherokee Indians.½

This second book in this series continue on in the life of Cherokee Rose and Britt Claiborne. Now married, they are content with the life the Lord has blessed them with. But Britt's job as a law officer in Indian Territory can be dangerous, and Cherokee Rose tries hard not to worry about him. As the back cover states, ". . . follow this wilderness family as they face the trials and hardships, joys and triumphs of faith in the face of danger and adversity."

This can be read as a stand alone book, but book one gives you so much background on this story, that I highly encourage folks to read book one first.½

The author did a great job of giving you the history behind the "Trail of Tears" that I have heard spoken about. As one review said so well, that this story was "a great way to learn about a historical event we would rather sweep under the rug".

You will get to know all about Cherokee Rose and her background, as she grows up among the Cherokee Indians in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. But eventually they will be forced to take a thousand mile journey westward, on a journey that is filled with trials and sickness, and many cruel soldiers who didn't care about them at all. Through it their faith in God keeps many of them strong. It is on this journey that Cherokee Rose will find her future husband, as he serves his country by taking part in this journey with the Indians. He though will be a champion for the Cherokee and will find something very precious in the beautiful Cherokee Rose.½

The final book in the series, but not my favorite one. I thought the story was a little slow and repetitive, and it didn't hold my interest. But I do enjoy reading about the history of the Mexican-American War, as I really wasn't all that familiar with what went on during that time in history.

The Kane brothers are once again fighting for their family's freedom as Mexico tries to take back land from America. Periodically the brothers get to come home and be reunited with their loved ones for a brief time in between the battles. The Kane family is one of deep faith endearing love, and strong courage. And they love to share the gospel with people.

This was a very good ending to a series of books that I enjoyed very much. Each story in the series is a complete stand alone story, but all the stories have the common thread of immigrants coming to America. I enjoyed the history and the emphasis that the author's put upon the gospel.

In this story you are in Budapest and the year is 1893. The story begins with the Varda family, Dad, Mom, and two boys, Joseph and Stephan. Life is good as they work on their tour boats up and down the Danube River. But tragedy will strike this family many times. And how a person responds in the midst of a deep hurt is a lesson for all to heed. This family will be torn apart, but watching how the Lord directs, and seeing how He works things together for good, was very uplifting. There is a romance in this story, but it is not the main plot of this story. Watching the "intricately coordinated events" that lead to the Dad and son finding each other kept me reading into the night. The title will have a lot of meaning by the end of this book. Enjoy!

Another good story in this 'Shadow of Liberty' series. As the back covers says so well, this story is about "bitter seeds . . . a royal vengeance. . . high-seas kidnap . . . and deliverance". All the stories in this series deal (at some point in the story) with the immigrants who poured into New York Harbor for the opportunity to make a better life for themselves. This particular book deals with Queen Victoria's life; her reign, her strengths and her struggles. It shows the sad reality of how a person who becomes bitter towards someone without dealing with it and forgiving, can ruin not just one person's life, but a generation to follow. I liked how the author weaved the Barlow family throughout this story and how much of an influence they had on Victoria's life. An interesting tale in the life of the Queen of England.

This was another very good story in the 'Shadow of Liberty Series'. Each story is a stand alone book, but all the stories incorporate the coming to America and seeing Lady Liberty in the New York harbor.

This story is about a Swiss village of Chur and the surgeon who lives there, Erik Linden. Erik was excited to be marrying Metryka in just a few weeks, when she announced to him that she no longer loved him. He was heartbroken. Soon after Metryka will be injured in the unrest between the woodworkers in town and the factory that has started up and taken their jobs from them. Erik will question his ability as a doctor and sets off for America. But Erik leaves behind a young woman who has loved him from afar most of her life. How she comes back into his life makes for a beautiful story of love.

I enjoy the attention to detail and history that these authors put into their work. You learn some history and are entertained all at the same time. Looking forward to reading all 4 books in this series.
