Sucharita1986 | 1 altra recensione | Aug 28, 2023 | Intrigue, lies, dreams, treachery, romance, and brotherly bonds weave with a rich, historical setting and a create a tale to sink into.
This is a saga, which is set during the 5th century of Irish an Scottish history. While the main plot centers around Fergus Mor (also considered the first King of Scottland), his two brothers, Loarn and Angus, hold quite a bit of importance as well. Then, there's the half-brother, whose own desires and intentions threaten to ruin anything and everything the three brothers achieve.
This isn't a straight-forward story, but as is with real life, many aspects are constantly at play. A rich weave of secrets, lies, hopes, and the desire to survive drive the tale forward as obstacles mount and every achievement seems to come with a heavy price. The relationships draw in and hit the heart, while battles rage and dangers lurk in the shadows. And all the while, the historical aspects sink in with natural finesse and create a vivid world.
It's a grabbing read, and while I did find times to take a pause here and there, it was a delight to dive right back in and continue on.… (altro)

Lucyreadss | 10 altre recensioni | Mar 16, 2022 | A captivating historical novel, this tells the story of St Patrick, before he was St Patrick. If you know your Catholic history, you know St Patrick was the one that brought Christianity to Ireland, challenging the existing pagan belief system. Following his travels and eventual return to Ireland in this fictionalized account was absolutely fascinating, and although fiction, has a ring of truth to it. I highly recommend this if you enjoy historical fiction, or want to take a step back in time and watch the life of one of the more famous saints unfold before your eyes.… (altro)

The book has names of lots of interesting places and as I delved deeper into the plot I got to know more about their history. The twists and turns were so great that they eventually challenged my assumptions. The book is medium paced, defining all the events and characters in detail. And, at a point of time readers are left to choose sides which was really something different and interesting. I really enjoyed the book a lot.… (altro)
