Walsh has never fit in. With iridescent beetle shell hair, and what might be newly sprouting horns, she’s decided to run away from the city, her loving brother, and his shrew of a wife. In order to make her escape, she needs money. The only way to get it is to sell her most treasured possession—a worn leather book once belonging to her mother. The only problem? Tieg Connolly, a dour young man on the hunt for rare and interesting tomes.

This book was such a sweet story. I could not put this book down and finished it within a couple of days. I loved the characters, the story line, and most definitely the twists and turns and shocks that came with this story. A great afternoon, happily ever after read.

I received this book as an ARC. From the description it sounded good. I am usually a cozy murder and/or paranormal mystery type of girl, so I went out on a limb with this one. Lets just say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It very easily kept my focus and attention to the point that I never wanted to put it down. What surprised me the most was how beautifully written it was. The words just seemed to flow effortlessly. Some sentences I read over and over because of the way the words were written. They were just so touching. The story centers on the life of a young woman, the people in her life and about finding herself. This is a combination of a fantasy/romance/mystery book. The author weaves the story easily from romance and family to the mystery surrounding the young woman. This just wasn't an enjoyable book, it was fantastic. Take a leap like I did and read this book!

This was such a lovely book to read. When I finally sat down to read it, I couldn’t stop and ended up reading it in one sitting. I really enjoyed how to story progressed, it wasn’t fast pace or rushed which I really appreciated

I loved the characters. One of my biggest problems with some books is lack of communication because one character doesn’t want to say what’s bothering them or burden another, this book didn’t really have that. There were a couple start and stop moments but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

This is an ARC Review of "A Simple Tale of Ink and Bindings". Let me start off by saying, this was such a 'cozy vibe', I guess some would categorize the book as a cozy fantasy. The story was good, I loved the writing, the characters, world building. Ugh, all of it, lets get specific shall we?
I never fully understood what fellow reviewers meant when they referenced a piece as being lyrical, but this, this book had so many points where I couldnt help but read it outloud to a friend. I wish I knew which parts are for sure in the final version of the book so I could share a quote, but I read an ARC, so that cannot be done.
World building, let me start off by saying, I'm not much of a 'fey' reader, or 'fairy' reader. Although I do read fantasy alot, this sort of mythology is somewhat new to me. Even with my little experience and understanding of the mythos, I was easily able to understand how and why things were happening.
The romance, gosh, our main couple is adorable, the things the MMC says to the FMC got me kicking my feet and giggling. The words they would exchange were so honestly sweet and endearing. Although I will say the relationship is not the complete and utter main focus, which I am glad, we gets a lot of moments with them but I am glad the author has chosen to focus on the story more.
Final Thoughts, I hope this book gets the recognition it deserves because this felt like a much needed change of reading from what I have been reading lately (very heavy and somewhat sad books), this can easily be a book I come back to when I'm not feeling my best and want a positive read. I hope future readers enjoy reading as much as I did.

I loved this sweet romantic story of the fey and finding your inner truth. How could I resist a tale about setting up a bookstore/library in a small town! I read this in two settings, and I am seeking out the related novel when I save this review. There were a few editorial hiccups in the second half of the book, but not enough to compromise enjoying the story.

Breath and Starshine by Kami King Larsen is a book set in a far post-apocalyptic world where a much reduced population mostly struggles to get by. Holding society together are a series of settlements which seemed to be held together by the Medicus Corpus - a quasi-government which the reader is not sure is a benevolent association or medical dictatorship.

Aurelia is a medical practitioner assigned to a hub settlement out in the desert. For all the stripping away of many modern conveniences - reliable electricity and easy travel, for starters - there's still a fair amount of technological advancement in the medical field. However, Aurelia struggles with the ethics of using a gift of healing outside what is proscribed by the Medicus Corpus.

Add to this that in their settlement, strange attacks targeting young women are starting to happen, most of which are fatal, and have all the marks of suffocation - in the middle of the desert. Despite precautions, Aurelia seems to be the perfect target for the next attack...

I liked this book quite a bit. There's quite a lot that is original, and it's obvious that the author has experience with both the medical aspects and the American southwest. I liked that there were kind of "cute" details - Aurelia, for one, deals with a pair of seemingly ill-fitting glasses from time to time, and is described as being incredibly short for an adult woman, which does sometimes literally change her viewpoint.

I didn't really care for the way the chapters switched narrators; it reminded me too much of a Baby-Sitters' Club Super-Special. However, with those, it was pretty much assumed that the reader knew the characters, coming into a book that is the second in a series, it wasn't immediately clear who the characters were. (The Ebook version that I received also didn't seem to have a table of contents or chapter dividers, so flipping back to different characters' chapters was more difficult than it should have been.)

All in all, I'd recommend, and I may have to see about getting the first book to see how the story started. Mind you, this book is written with threads which, I assume, are meant to set up future books in the series. This isn't a bad thing, but it just means that not every situation finds its resolution here.

Disclosure: I received a Early Review Ebook from the author in hopes of a review. I am very, very late to reading the book, but life sometimes makes it difficult to get things done in the time we think they ought to get done!

I really enjoyed this book. As an early reviewer sometimes you don't expect much, as in my last two books, but this book was very good! While set in the future, it has the feel of an old western to it. I felt it was very well written and gave more details and characterizations then your typical young adult book. I also liked that the author chose a world that isn't commonly written about in this genre. it felt new and fresh. It was an adventure novel with a touch of magic realism and just a kiss of some sexual tension. The author's medical background also made an appearance in some of her descriptions in the latter half of the book. I will keep my eye out for the second in this series!
I received this book as part of LibraryThing's Early Reviewers. Thanks to them, Kami King Larsen and her publisher.

I received a copy of the audiobook from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. With all the strife going on, I wanted to read a book that was happy or had a happy end. This book fulfilled that spot. The book is a sort of coming of age book about a young girl in an unnamed village where everyone knows everyone. It follows her through identifying and understanding what she wants from her life through a series of interesting romantic events. It's just a light, cheerful story with an interesting ending. I really enjoyed it.

A book filled with an abundance of medical knowledge and wisdom and practical science but also with wonder and magic. It covers with richness, how people bond during difficult times. The audio reader was very pleasant with crisp pronunciation, making her easy to understand and listen to. A fascination twist on a post-apocalyptic world!

I loved the audio version of this book with its Irish journey into Celtic Folklore, love and deep friendships. This was part one of a two part series and I will be reading eagerly, the sequel. A lovely listen for a snowy day!

This is a magical story that is set in Ireland and takes you on a journey of love, loss, and searching for treasure, both the physical kind and the kind that may be found within ourselves. Aylee, the main character in this story, comes across Cailean, a lost and confused traveler who eventually remembers he is looking for something valuable that he has lost. In trying to help him she begins to find not only the truth in who she truly is herself but in who he is and why he is looking for a lost item.

I enjoyed the voice of the person asked to read this audiobook. She had a nice accent fitting the Irish setting and characters. I also enjoyed the inner world of Aylee's character, as she talked about her feelings for men and her coming-of-age woes as a young woman living in a tiny town where very few men surround her close to her age. I also enjoyed the mystery of the lost outsider she finds named Cailean. He becomes a catalyst in helping Aylee to become more truthful about her feelings surrounding her own developing identity and what she wants in her future.

I enjoyed this book. It has a good storyline, I loved the characters and how well the characters were described. It's a small town, magical, make you worry and smile, quick read. I wouldn't say it's an amazing must read, but I would recommend reading it.

The narrator was not amazing... I'd give the narration 2 stars. I think her accent added to the listening experience but otherwise I think she could have done better. I listened to it on 1.45x for it to be a normal pace. There was a lot of background noise, maybe she was drinking tea and the cup and saucer were clattering, that was very distracting from the story.

'A Simple Tale of Water and Weeping' by Kami King Larsen was a fantastic tale of an old Cetlic myth of selkies and their interactions with towns people. I was drawn into Aylee's story as if she was just a girl that I might meet down the street. There was something so wholesome about her and her family and the respect they have for their nameless town.

Cailean's story is one shrouded in just enough mystery to keep him a fascinating newcomer into Aylee's town, but not so mysterious as to be cause for concern.

I truly enjoyed the story and plot even though there was no major climatic moment.

The narrator, Grainne Sheehan's voice is like a warm hug. I enjoyed the lit of the sing song way she read the story. However, the pace was too slow and I had to listen to the story at a minimum speed of 1.2x but even that on occasion was too slow. The editing of the audio also seemed to be a problem with a change in volume, multiple voice overs that were startling at times, and abrupt changes between the end of a sentence and the next chapter.

I'd like to thank the author for providing the free audiobook for review.

Thank you, Kami King Larsen for providing a free audiobook of A Simple Tale of Water and Weeping in exchange for an honest review. The star rating is based solely on the experience from the audiobook and not the storyline or writing style.

It is hard to tell if the book is mediocre or just the narrator. Grainne Sheehan was a very monotone narrator. Though there was some obvious voice over editing, the background noises also detracted from the story.

The romance between Aylee and Cailean is pleasant. I believe I will need to read the physical book to do a better review on the plot, characters, and writing. Overall, it is a nice comfort read to ease out of a reading slump.

This book is a great combo of mystery, science fiction, and medical drama with a little romance (no spice, only some kissing and one fade-to-black scene) mixed in.
This is the second book in a series, and although I was able to enjoy it as a stand alone, I would have welcomed a bit more background as to how the present world came about.
After along and arduous journey through the desert, Aurelia and her best friend, Roe, and his brother, Hale, have finally arrived at the place called Devil’s Meadows. They have been assigned to practice medicine here for the rest of their lives, but where medicine fails is where Aurelia’s special gifts come in. On the way to their destination, Aurelia discovered she has the power of “wonder-working” where she can treat ailments oftentimes more effectively than modern medicine. The only problem is, in the dystopian future they live, this practice has been outlawed. Balancing a need to help with a fear of breaking the law of the land, Aurelia finds herself in a moral quandary. But when women around the settlement are found mysteriously murdered, she’ll soon find that her abilities have made her a target for entirely different reasons.
The writing is stellar and the plot tight and well thought out. It has action, suspense and drama, all wrapped together in a future-fiction mystery.

This is the second book in the Medicus Corpus series, and I was able to quickly get into the lives of the characters. The writing is tight and keeps you interested from start to finish with enough intrigue and a fantastic plot that you will not want to put down the book. The world that author Kami King Larsen created is a fun read and is one that I hope continues on from here. Grab the first one, and this one as well, and have a great weekend read.

2.5 stars

I received this book for free, this does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review

Breath and Starshine is second in the Medicus Corpus series and while I saw some mentioning you could start the series here, it was better to read book one first. I'm here to say it is better, BETTER to start with book one and not two like I did. This one seems to pick up right after the first ended and I was totally lost and struggled to connect with the characters and world; y'all, I was downright wishing for an info-dump. Told in three alternating povs from characters Aurelia, Roe, and Hale, it probably took until around forty percent before I felt like I could understand some whos, whys, whats, and hows and then try and get into the story.

Medicus Corpus was my new family. Devil's Meadows my new home.

This seems to be set in a post-apocalyptic world with the settlement of Devil's Meadows being somewhere around the Hoover Dam (I'm guessing that was the big dam they visited in the story). I feel like it was the current contemporary world when wars started and then a veering into fiction when the author writes that The Grand Divagation happened. The Divagation was when some form of leaders got together and decided to shut-off modern conveniences (electricity, travel, plumbing, wifi (HORRORS), etc.) and cut-off, stop distribution of medicines. After the chaos and numerous deaths this causes, a new group of leaders create the Medicus Corpus, an institution that seems to run how hospitals, medicine, and healthcare are run and provided. This story is pretty focused on the hospital and healthcare aspect of this world and we don't get much outside of it as our three pov characters all work in the hospital. Maybe more of background world setting was giving in the first but after I got to the halfway point I thought I had enough to have a good enough understanding of the setting I was in.

This had a YA feel to it, unless I missed it, our main characters ages were never given. Book one obviously had them going through an adventure that started with Aurelia and Roe, paired to work together by the Medicus Corpus and became bestfriends, and then brought in Roe's brother Hale, who has a very barely there romance with Aurelia in this one, and other side characters like Holdan, who has a mysterious magical(?) healing gift like Aurelia that he has been helping her learn to control but must be kept secret because the Medicus Corpus would jail(?) them for it, and a married couple who seem to be protectors/guards for the hospital workers, Geneva and Asher. Their friend and relationship dynamics are already set in this one and I missed some of that development.

I would call this mostly a slice of life story as it seems done with the first book's adventure, they start on a new one with mysterious deaths of young women are happening in their settlement and a new character, Campbell, comes into the picture alluding that he is from a not well known other settlement and is on the trail of an almost, energy vampire illness struck person, an illness that befalls men at random from where he comes from. There's a lot of following our characters to the hospital and back, with Aurelia getting attacked and then having to be protected, and an ending bait set-up that ended that storyline pretty abruptly.

That was the first night I slept on the ground outside Aurelia's door.

I did have problems at times trying to distinguish the different voices of our povs and for Hale supposed to be a big part of Aurelia's life, he was very absent. The end did give a scene where, I guess, they decide they're dating and have a couple kisses that leads to a firmly shut-door scene. The magic aspect of Aurelia's “wonder-working” is the obvious thread that will keep going (the ending definitely alludes to at least a book three) and while I can see the path of keeping it going through the serious, I would have liked more of it worked into the world-building, again, could have been developed more in the first.

This did read quick but not having read the first in the series had me lost for most of the first half and the second half fell a little short in the plot momentum, somewhat stagnated and time jumping abrupt at that same time and fell a lot short in the romance aspect. This did read quick and if looking for a post apocalyptic slice of life this is the adventure they have to get through in this book, some medical jargon, and with a YA tone, this maybe is one of the few out there to fit that particular bill.

This is the 2nd book in the Medicus Corpus series. I didn’t read the first one. Once I got into the story, I was able to follow the plot. There was action, drama, suspense, magic and romance all rolled into one great story. I really enjoyed this book. The characters are well-developed. However, it might help to read the first book to get a better sense of them at the beginning. I found myself really invested in their lives. I look forward to reading more.

Aurelia, Roe and Hale have arrived at their assignment. They begin working at the clinic. There is a killer on the lose. A young girl is suffering from an unknown cause. We see the relationship between Aurelia and Hale develop. Not as exciting as the first book, but I look forward to the continuation of the series.½

This is the story of traveling health care workers. The Storyline is random passages and actions. It does not flow smoothly. I don’t appreciate the Descriptions in the book. Someone is described as having Brains boobs and butt. Plus she’s sweeter than agave nectar and ain’t aware of any of. Any woman with boobs and butt knows she has boobs and butt. Eyes not the typical muddy hazel id seen in other faces. Seriously I think this is insulting but trying to be complimentary. We clicked into friendship the way childrens blocks fastened together ugh. Dialog “I’m sure you’re right. As always.” Said with sincerity. By a woman to a man of course.

You can’t be good health care worker if you become emotionally attached easily to a sick stranger as the main character does.

Description of violence “a looming storm about to break” doesn’t work for me. I did not enjoy this random collection of annoying descriptions.
