I found Sweet Home when I discovered that [b:Gantz/1|2824337|Gantz/1|Hiroya Oku|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1403200038l/2824337._SX50_.jpg|2850440] started up with its extreme nonsense again with [b:GANTZ:E 01|55012123|GANTZ E 01 (ヤングジャンプコミックスDIGITAL; Gantz E, #1)|Hiroya Oku|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1597763005l/55012123._SX50_.jpg|85794555], and like the lemming that I am, I started reading Gantz:E. Gantz is one of those mangas that you just can't put down, no matter how ridiculous it gets. Sweet Home appeared as a “similar to”, so I took a chance on it.
I'm very glad I did. It's got that high action, rivers-of-blood horror thing, with over-the-top emotional, expressive art. Confined to a single apartment building, it follows the usual type of low-level to higher-level boss fights. Sweet Home is compulsively readable because of the sympathetic characters and the challenges they face. They all have personal flaws that make them vulnerable. The characters are well-rounded and they each have a backstory that will break your heart and then stomp on it.
The plot is absolutely ridiculous. But, few people read action/horror manhwa or manga for the plot, so it doesn't matter. It's as compulsively readable as Gantz and I didn't have to wait 13 years to get a resolution to the story. Do I sound bitter? Naahhh.… (altro)
