This book was a good book to read to children about the importance of waiting. Jacob was a small bear who compared himself to his older siblings. He could not reach things and would quickly get discouraged. His Papa would measure his height on a tree so he can see how much he grows. His Mama will always tell him to "wait" and he will grow. One day he finally saw his eyes in the mirror and knew he grew. He rushed to the tree and noticed a difference in his height. This encouraged him and was excited to wait to grow even taller. The children reading this can know that when you wait for something, it is possible.

This is a wonderful story about grieving after a loss. It's a shame it's out of print.

Goodbye, Max is a story about a child grieving the loss of his pet. Max was Ben's friend and he died of old age. The vet tried everything to help Max, but nothing worked. Max died while Ben was at school and Ben was heartbroken. When his father brings home a new puppy Ben refuses to accept him. Even when Ben's friend Zach comes over to play ball Ben refuses. While Ben and Zach deliver papers around the neighborhood, they remember all the good memories of Max and they each cry. When they arrive back at Ben's home, he is finally ready to name the new puppy and accept him into the family. This is a very heartfelt story. I would have acted the same way as Ben if I lost my pet. My dog Belle is 12 and I hate to see the day when it comes for her to pass. Losing a pet is very hard on anyone especially a child. They are your best friend and you try so hard to help them but sometimes nothing can be done. This can help a child who has just lost a pet to remember to think about all the good and happy memories about their pet and not just mourn over their loss. I feel the best way to deal with death is to not dwell on the sad aspects of the person's or animal’s life but how they changed your life and made you who you are today. I really like how the two boys were able to cry over Max because this shows that it is okay for boys to cry and show emotion. I feel like this was a little out of the norm where it would have been a little girl crying over her pet.

My kids at my daycare love this book. I believed they love it because they all have beach houses or go to the beach every weekend with they parents. This book tells about the young girl Miranda day at the beach. I love the way the author depicts the different aspects of a beach visit. My kids were saying how they build sand castles when they go to the beach with their parents. I love that my kids were able t relate to the book.

I really enjoyed this book for two reasons. The first because it was so diverse and looked into a different part of the world that not everyone sees every day. The second reason is because it talked about war which sometimes does not do well in children’s books, however, this book did an incredible job of incorporating.
The first thing that I really liked about this book was the illustrations. Since this book was more complex, the illustrator made sure to draw some of the more complex parts. For example, in the text it talks about a boy who is riding a water buffalo. However, most children do not know what water buffalo are, so the illustrator made sure to include a picture of the little boy riding one.
The second thing that I enjoyed about this book was the point of view. I really liked that it was told from the little boy because you can really feel his emotions. For example, in the text the little boy was told that the cranes might not come back, and his reactions was sad and the author described his sadness but creating a worried uneasy tone in the novel.
I believe the big idea of this book was war. I think that we hear about war and what war start to finish but never the after part of the war. This was taken place after the war which gave a different insight on how war really affects the world after it is over, which is really powerful.

This fantasy is a book because the animals are talking! This book is about a mouse and his friends rabbit, hedgehog, and squirrel. Mouse hear that snake wanted to hurt him so he was hiding from him. While hiding he feel in a hole and was hurt. Along came snake and asked what was going on the friends were scared to ask for his help with the fear he would hurt the mouse. Snake said he would never hurt mouse because he was his friend and ended up recusing him. This story would be great in talking about why we shouldn't believe everything we hear and that we should not gossip about out friends.

Goodbye, Max, by Holly Keller was a book about a little boy whose dog had died. Ben was so sad that Max had died, he didn’t want to do anything. He didn’t want to play with the new dog or his friend Zach. One day Ben and Zach had to deliver the newspapers and they reminisced on what Max would do while delivering papers. They bought cried but soon was over it. Ben and Zach went home to finally play with Ben’s new puppy and to name him. It is hard when a pet dies, because they feel they are apart of you especially when you have been having them for along time. Ben acted a way that I would totally act if one of my pets died. I could completely relate with him.

Summary: A duckling and a caterpillar become great friends until the caterpillar goes missing for awhile. The duckling waits and waits for him to come back, but he never does. After giving up on his friendship with the caterpillar and feeling very sad, the (now Gosling) goes swimming out in the pond nearby. She hears a voice from behind her, and it sounds quite familiar. When she turns around, she sees a beautiful butterfly. The gosling and the butterfly begin talking (still not realizing who each of them are) and eventually tell each other their names. After giving their names and more information about themselves, they both realize they are actually their friends from before! They are so happy to finally be reunited!

Personal reaction: This is one of my favorite books! It talks about friendship in a very interesting and realistic way. People grow and change, that's just a part of life. But just because there is change, does not mean our friendship has too! I love how Farfalina and Marcel are so happy to be reunited in the end even though they are both not what they expected, their friendship is the same!

Classroom extension ideas: Use this book to discuss the butterfly life cycle. You could also use this book for an art project of butterflies. Use paper plates, paint, pipe cleaners and create a butterfly of your own.

A cute story about a young bear named Jacob who was not happy about being small. Jacob couldn't reach certain things his brother and sister could, he couldn't see himself in the mirror and he wasn't able to get to the top of the jungle gym because of his height and how small he was. This made Jacob upset and just wanted to be bigger like his brother and sister. Momma Bear kept telling Jacob, be patient and just wait and your time will come. Being a young bear, Jacob was very impatient and was sad to see after only a few days he still wasn't big. He ate his vegetables, took his vitamins and drank lots of milk to help him grow. One morning when Jacob woke up, he went into the bathroom to brush his teeth and he was able to see himself in the mirror! Jacob was so happy that he was finally starting to grow and was excited to start doing things with his brother and sister. A cute story to teach students about growing and that not everyone is the same shape and size as others but that doesn't make them any less of a person.

Geraldine and her brother went to pick out their Christmas tree at the tree stand. Geraldine was persistent to pick out the biggest tree. Her and Willie had to walk the tree home but it was too big and hard to carry. On the way home a few neighbors trimmed the tree along the way but not too much. She had to push the tree into the house because it was so big. Papa stood up the tree and it bent down but Gearlidine loved it. They decorated the tree together as a family
