Survival is an eight-letter word that after reading this book, you’ll never feel able to justify using again in a sentence to describe an experience you have gone through. Because after you have read what this man went through, survival was shown to be a whole new meaning to me!

To say I was blown-away after reading this book would not do this unbelievable and frightening story justice. Putting to one side your views on the evils of drugs and those who help bring it into our country, no one should have to experience the tale that Frank Kane somehow lived to tell.

Venezuela.

Kane, who seems to think [b:Papillon|6882|Papillon |Henri Charrière|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1165604798s/6882.jpg|1289201] was a real memoir, was imprisoned in Venezuela after getting caught trafficking drugs. While the treatment he received appears to have been brutal, he is also an aggressive, racist, sexist narrator who doesn't seem to have learned much from the experience. The flavor was very much that of [b:A Million Little Pieces|1241|A Million Little Pieces|James Frey|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1157865754s/1241.jpg|3140930] in that it seemed inflated and not genuine. I have no idea what Venezuelan prisons are like, but my point is about emotional veracity. [b:Brother One Cell: An American Coming of Age in South Korea's Prisons|119088|Brother One Cell An American Coming of Age in South Korea's Prisons|Cullen Thomas|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171773524s/119088.jpg|114655] and [b:The Damage Done: Twelve Years of Hell in a Bangkok Prison|392438|The Damage Done Twelve Years of Hell in a Bangkok Prison|Warren Fellows|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1174403763s/392438.jpg|382025] tell a similar story while also answering the question, And why are you telling me this?
