A beautiful gut wrenching tale of 3 very different sisters who have to handle a horrible tragic disaster. A story of sisterly love, betrayal, friendships, first loves and overcoming grief.

Companion read to "One Second After" - a young adult look at prepping for the end of life as we know it, but when the "end" comes it's not what was planed for.

Memory is that trick by which we see the awful events of the past loom over the good, like mountains over mice. We don't recall life as it was. Instead, we remember what was different, frightening, or strange, and we turn our lives into fun-house mirror images of the truth.

Sarah, Rachel, and Asha didn't have a typical childhood. They spent their formative years living in a commune with a mother too absent-minded and self-involved to do much of anything, and a father who didn't want children. Later, Sarah was diagnosed with leukemia, not once, but twice, and the family spent years in hospitals. Now Sarah has died - not from the leukemia, but a hiking accident - and Rachel and Asha don't know what to do with themselves.

The Good Sister chronicles their journey to find out who they are in the absence of their sister, along with the truth of what happened on the day of her death. The book is beautifully written, and each sister has her own distinct story in addition to the main plot of Sarah's death. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

There are three sisters here: Rachel the wild child, Asha the lost soul and Sarah the perfect one who holds everyone together. However, as the book moves along we discover something terrible happened to Sarah who is now dead, Rachel lives with a huge amount of guilt and Asha has a lot on her plate as well. Add to that mix a crazy mother trying to recapture her youth that becomes balanced out with a former hippie dad who becomes a real adult that saves his last two children. This is a great read, and could be a great movie.… (altro)
