I really feel like he's an Ascended Master when it comes to his life, though he's no pushover. He tough, he self-aware, he is a little judgy of other people with a lower drive and less commitment, but he also knows he's an outlier par excellence.

Read the book for inspiration and wisdom instead of for motivation because he's so over-the-top that, unless you're already an elite runner (I'm not at all), you might just get frustrated.

I highly recommend this book. It's more philosophy than a how-to.… (altro)

If you could use a boost to your prayer-life, this book might provide it. While the author draws on his experience as a runner for the bulk of his illustrations, the topics and insights are germane to any repetitive task, like walking, for example. He shares prayers from many traditions that lend themselves to repetition while emptying the mind and becoming more accessible to God. I particularly liked what he calls the “Benedictine Run.” Balance and harmony result from devoting one third of the time to reflecting on a short passage (study); another third to explicit prayer (like the Jesus Prayer); and a third to community service, like picking up trash along the way (work). I shall try to incorporate this pattern into my morning walks.
