A true story about Major, a dog that worked in WWII as part of a program called Dogs for Defense. Dogs for Defense was a program that asked Americans to volunteer their pet dogs for jobs in WWII. The military then returned the dogs to the original owners at the end of the war. The story is told from the point of view of the dog, and is beautifully illustrated. The author does a very nice job telling the story as a dog might imagine it, with emphasis on smells, a dog's primary sense for identification. I enjoyed the story as well as learning some history from the historical note at the end.… (altro)
