The best value in this book are the case studies at the end. Librarian professionals reveal how they used website in their work.

The building of the virtual learning commons beyond just a simple library webpage can be done in a variety of technologies. Our own experimentation has led us to Google Site, but WordPress is a more sophisticated alternative if you are willing to stretch your skills. This manual gets you started and quickly moves to more sophisticated library examples from folks in the field who have experience with this major tool. Personally, we have used WordPress: The Missing Manual for more guidance and skill development, but this one has the advantage of library examples. There are a wide variety of both print, digital and multimedia tutorials about this program, so if you are interested, it is wise to surround yourself with a variety of manuals and guides that will save you a lot of headaches. And, you will want to check out the free template from Google that get’s you started in the construction of your own virtual learning commons at: http://sites.google.com/site/templatevlc.
