I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book hard to put down. With each page you were engrossed more. The characters were well developed and the storyline flowed. I would recommend this to young and old alike. Look forward to reading more from this author.

I received this E-book as an Early Reviewer. I had difficulty downloading the e-book to my Android and Harry St. John, the author, was so friendly and helpful. Love the e-book,with each page turned, I wanted to keep reading...........
Good Novel, keeps you focused and wanting more, page by page. Spade is a boy obsessed with finding out the truth regarding his old girl friend's death (was she really capable of suicide)? Spade places himself in danger to uncover the truth behind Ella's death. Many twists and turns that keep you reading page after page.
The pace really picks up towards the end of the book.

This is a sort of coming-of-age crime novel with touches of humour and darker undertones.
Teenager Spade is devastated when his ex-girlfriend hangs herself. So devastated that he can't believe she killed herself, and is convinced that she was murdered, and he sets out to find, and punish, the guilty party. But is he really onto something, or is it just his grief, his guilt at the way their relationship ended, and his need to find someone to blame that drives him on? The deeper he digs, the less it seems he knows about the dead girl. And being somewhat of a loner anyway, he has no-one to share his suspicions with. He dare not trust anyone, except perhaps her best friend, who he feels protective towards, and doesn't want to involve. And the police are part of that dim & distant adult world - they wouldn't believe him ,or worse, they would start to suspect him. Either way, the real culprits would go unpunished.
The story is told from Spade's point of view, so the reader journeys through it inside his head, but Harry St John manages to get the balance right so that even though we are with Spade all the way, we are that bit more detached and can see things a bit more clearly. The denouement may be predictable, but the ending is quite shocking, and as the hero rides off into the sunset he leaves questions of justice, revenge and responsibility hanging in the air as well as bodies.

Though I read this book quickly and I did enjoy it, I had a hard time with the events as they unfolded.

I found it hard to believe Jack could find all these things the police could not. I found it hard to believe that having labeled Ella's death suicide the police were still bothering to ask questions. I know from experience on that point, the police (in America at least) don't question people on a suicide after the funeral. If they are following up on the case in this manner, some new information has come to light and Spade would not have been the only one to find the Deepest Desires hidden room. I found it hard to believe Spade could get beaten like he was several times during the book and still immediately be able to function well enough to continue investigating.

But, in spite of all this, I was able to put aside my disbelief and enjoy the fast pace. I could recommend this as a good escape from mundane television.
