There aren't many books that can make you laugh, tear up or cringe with overwhelming empathy. Simon Jay has written one of those books that I don't just want to recommend to people. I wish I could make it required reading.

Why? Because life is an uphill battle for many people because all of us have challenges we face in life and could learn something from reading about Simon's life.

When I look around the world right now, it terrifies me. When I read a book like Bastardorgraphjy and I feel like I'm given the motivation to keep on with the battle.

Simon was always not-the-norm. Life threw a hell of a lot at him, and there were times when he definitely got mired down in it. He doesn't spare any detail about those times. The thoughts, the emotions, the questioning... it's all there in black and white. This book is a raw, and candid exploration of living with mental illness, living with homophobia, being blindsided and confused by bigotry.

This story was a journey through the mayhem of one person's mind.

Thank you, Simon.
