I had read this book when I first picked it up when I was visiting Kennywood back in the 1990's. I couldn't remember if I had finished the book so I decided to read it and finish it this time. I am glad that I did.

Kennywood started out as a Trolley Park. I can remember when I first went there with my in laws. Hearing my mother in law talk about the park and to try and give me a history was interesting. I am not sure if she had visited the park before with her kids.

One interesting thing I found in the book is my ex-husband's last name. There is a person mentioned in this book who was manager. I remember telling my mother-in-law about it and she swears that the person could be a relative of theirs.

This book takes you through the many changes that Kennywood goes through to be able to survive from 1898 through to the 1980's and still going. Kennywood was constantly changing and improving the park. They looked at what was popular and how things were changing in other theme parks.

I loved reading about the different rides that kept appearing. The pictures were treasures to look at. Seeing how the park looked back in the beginning is just astounding. Reading about rides that were successful and not so successful was interesting. Kennywood even survived a few fires that destroyed the dance pavilion and a few rides.

I am now looking to read more of the books about amusement parks since reading about Kennywood the Roller Coaster Capital of the World!! I do love Roller Coasters!!

The most up to date history of my home park, this book only goes through 1996. Hopefully someone will update it to present. The text is not at all exciting to read and jumps around a bit, but the pictures are priceless for an AP historian like myself. Definitely a must have in my library.
