Mostly solid, though I felt some of the problems later on it the book could have done with a diagram playing out alternative moves to show why they were worse moves. Many of them had these, but there were a handful that left me confused as to why the given solution was best that didn't include them.

Also, you may want to play out the example games in the back on a physical board. The games are taken from professional matches, and aren't always the easiest to follow when there are multiple ko moves and their locations aren't indicated on the board. It would be much easier to spot as you get to that point on a physical board, rather than trying to keep track of it all in your head.

Sød lille introduktion til spillet Go lige fra man folder brættet ud til man har spillet de første 50-100 spil. Det punkt er jeg bare aldrig kommet forbi.

An interesting book - I found the commentary on the games very helpful. However, I would think that the book's pace is a little too fast for someone who is absolutely new to the game.

Kaoru Iwamoto is one of the greatest Go masters and his book is a wonderful introduction to the game of Go, AKA baduk (korean) and wei gei (Chinese). I personally think this book moves a bit fast in some places and the example games are a little hard to follow, but this can be expected from any Go book I think. If you want a thorough introduction to the wonderful game of Go, this is the book for you!

Go is one of those brilliantly simple games that only grow in complexity the more you understand it. It's a game of territory control, in which you place your pieces down on an open board, attempting to control space and occasionally capturing your opponent's pieces. "Go for Beginners" is about as simple of an introduction as one could hope to have. While it helps to have some basic understanding of the game (or at least strategy games in general) Iwamoto does an excellent job of laying out the rules for Go, which while fairly simple, are so foreign to any other style of gaming common in the West that it takes a little time to get acclimatized. He also gives a break down of the basic strategies, including examples from games between top players. Iwamoto was a world class player when he wrote this back in the 1970s, so this is somewhat akin to having Bobby Fischer give you pointers in chess. This has its advantages, but it's best to keep in mind that you need to play at least a 100 games before you will even begin to appreciate some of what he is saying.
