Chirp, is a baby chicken who does not want to go to sleep. Chirp leaves the henhouse to go exploring and to try to catch the moon. Along the way, he wants to find a friend, but they all want to sleep. Finally, he meets Kitty who is willing to play catch the moon with Chirp. Kitty leads Chirp through the forest to a river, where they should be able to catch the moon. Kitty jumps into the water and quickly finds out about reflections. She only manages to wake up the sleeping fish. Chirp finally falls asleep on Kitty’s back on their way home.

This is a really cute book that has been translated from Japanese. Most pages have a fold out flap or some certain cutouts for babies to explore. This book is designed to be a read aloud that allows babies to explore the pages. The inside flaps have a lot of animals drawn and labeled on them. This will teach babies a lot of different animal names. The pictures appear to be painted in watercolor. The animals are gentle and cute. The colors are bright and attractive to babies.

This book would work best in a Pre-K library. It is not quite a board book, but definitely has sturdy cardstock pages. It would make a good addition to a animal themed display. It will appeal to readers who love baby chicks. The theme about bedtime and chasing the moon are things that appeal to the youngest readers.… (altro)
