A story about identity, family, school, bullying and friendship. Who is Lucy Bee? Why does she look different to her parents in that she has frizzy, frizzy hair. She always thought she was Lucy Bennett. Suddenly everything about her world starts changing. Bits of it, important bits, keep flying apart. Are her parents really her parents? Does she really belong in the Bennett family? She has to find out. When her teacher asks her what her science project is going to be she decides to track her genes... The author presents the character of Lucy Bee really well and as a reader you can quickly identify her strong character and her love of learning through reading and researching. It is a good exemplar of early stages of researching and how to draw up questions and tables for data entry. Throughout the book the author makes reference to the books that Lucy Bee reads and this is a good way of recommending books to readers "Readers create Readers".
