This was a wonderful well-curated read of letters home from a WWII Navy WAVE who was the author's Aunt who went to war a girl from the American Midwest and came home a grown woman sadder and wiser. It's heavily annotated with Navy records, pictures, and a six-page Bibliography.

This book and her second, "Waiting for Peace: The Journals & Correspondence of a World War II Medic ," inspired me to write a memoir about my mother's WWII service as a Marine Corps officer, and also to publish the letters of her fiance an Army Lt. in the 79th Cross of Lorriane Division who was killed in that war.

I met this author at her book launch at Terroir Creative Writing Festival, sponsored by the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County, held at Chemeketa Community College in McMinnville Oregon. She is also a local music teacher in McMinnville and a lovely person.… (altro)
