The title The Aliens Will Come to Georgia First by Stephen Hundley caught my eye when it appeared on LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers list, and the publishers’ description of fantasy and science fiction elements introduced to the Southern literary tradition was intriguing. The stories are well written, with vivid descriptions and complex characters. Unfortunately, like another reviewer, I found that these characters were not people I liked or would want to know. This collection would probably appeal to fans of Southern Gothic. I believe, however, that I must finally accept that I am not part of that audience.… (altro)

This wonderful collection of short stories tells many a tale about people in the south. While most of the narrators are not people I much liked, I understood them the way you do when you meet someone from home. If you have an interest in Georgia, or the south and its literature I think you will find plenty to mull over in these pages. This isn’t a book about aliens as the title may lead you to believe, but of how weird people here can be. Please forgive the shortness of this early review, my town has been ravaged by hurricane Idalia this week, so I am typing this on my phone.
PS. There’s implied and verified dog death in the stories, so be gentle with yourself if that’s a trigger for you.… (altro)
