Very readable personal account of an SOE operative landed in France just before D Day, tasked with organising, reinforcing and supplying Maquis forces. Covering barely two months, it describes the dangers and difficulties of operating in occupied France. War at the micro level, rather than a sweeping tapestry, it reminds anyone of the post-war generations of the tremendous bravery and sacrifices involved in defeating Germany in WWII.
